THURSDAY, JULY 24, 1941 Emmet Stauffer and Fred Mitsch invited about 25 of their young friends to meet them in the Mitsch block on lower Main street Friday night. Some envious persons threw some rocks through the windows but an enjoyable time was had by all. The evening was concluded with a lunch at the Park restaurant. A birthday surprise was given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Huber Monday night in honor of their son Earl’s 21st birthday anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Benroth were greatly surprised to have a number of relatives and friends call at their home east of town last Wednesday. It soon dawned on the aged couple that it was Mr. Benroth’s 71st birth day anniversary. While Mr. Bnroth is blind he soon realized that he was surrounded by warm hearted friends. In the Hamilton oratorical contest at Ann Arbor, Michigan open to all the students of the University of Michigan, Daniel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Triblehom, was among the favored six who were selected to appear upon the platform and com pete for the prize. John Bixel sold his house on Jack son street, formerly occupied by Mrs. Lambert to William Boothby who moved into it last week. Mrs. Lam bert now occupies her home pur chased from Mr. Bixel dn Lawn avenue. Clyde Kitchen who left here some time ago, is now located at Grant’s Pass, Oregon. Last Saturday afternoon Findlay High was treated to a great surprise when Bluffton High school easily de feated them in the fastest football game of the season by a score of 27 to 0. Wedding Announced Announcemen has been made of the wedding of Miss Barbara Conser, dau ghter of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Conser of Toledo to Luther Barrett of Cary, Ind., which took place in the chapel of the Monroe Street Methodist church in Toledo, Saturday. Mr. Conser will be remembered as principal of Bluffton high school more than tw-enty years ago and now holds a similar position in Toledo. Member Minders Club The Member Minders club will hold a nicnic next Tuesday evening at Riverside park, Findlay. The group will meet at the Presbyterian church here at 6 p. m. The Busy Bees The Bluffton Junior 4-H club, the Busy Bees, held their regular meet ing at the high school Monday with 19 members and three visitors pres net. Several of the girls are plan ning to attend the club tour to Cin cinnati and Coney Island. Five of the girls are now in camp at Celina. At the meeting Monday the girls were instructed in sewing and re cipes. Following this, games were played and refreshments were served. Mr. Rader graduated from McComb High school and Ohio State university and is employed as Vocational Agri culture instructor at Harrod High school. V. A. Amstutz, Swiss historian and Bluffton High school instructor, is busily engaged this summer in identifying the graves and markers at the old Mennonite cemetery four miles northwest of Bluffton. He re ports considerable difficulty in the project due to the fact that many of the markers were removed and others were inadequately inscribed.
