THURSDAY, SEPT. 4, 1941 Pvt. Robert Kohli of Camp Grant, Ill.,-and Elbert Kohli of Peoria, Ill., spent Labor day at the home here. Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Brinkman and daughters of Pontiac, Mich., were week end guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Augsburger and sons. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Bowersox of St. Johns were guests at dinner last Thursday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Conaway and fam ily. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Shaller and Mr. and Mrs. Donivan Stratton of Columbus Grove spent the week end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Ream at Gary, Ind. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Locher and family visited relatives here the first of the week. The Locher family came to this country a month ago from Maracaibo, Venezuela, where he was in the employ of the Stand ard Oil company. They are now lo cated at Atlanta, Ga., where Mr. Locher is employed as an electrical engineer by the Plantation Pipeuine company. Miss Annabel Weed of North Jack son street returned, home Saturday night after spending a week in Chi cago. She was accompanied by her brother and wife, Mr. & Mrs. Dwight Weed, who spent the week end with Mr. Weed’s parents, Rev. and Mrs. J. A. Weed. Mr. and Mrs. Weed return ed to Chicago, Monday night. Augsburger and sons Dick and Don, Tommie Conaway and Mrs. Joe Crouse of Ada spent last Thursday at the State fair in Columbus. Rev. and Mrs. A. J. Neuensch wander and family of Quakertown, Pa., visited relatives and friends here over the week end. Miss Ruth Steiner, left for New Washington, on Wednesday to begin her teaching in public schools at that place. Miss Vera Reichenbach of Cleve land spent the week end here with her parents, Postmaster and Mrs. Ed R. Reichenbach. Elbert Kibele of Detroit visited over the week end at the home of his brother, Kermit Kibele and family, north on the Dixie highway. Fountain pens for school at Sid ney’s Drug shop. Mrs. Yoder was formerly matron of Ropp hall, Bluffton college girls dormitory. Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Beard of Mans field and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Basinger of Columbus Grove called at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Lora of South Main street, Monday. Mrs. Kent Welty and infant dau ghter were removed from the Bluff ton hospital to the home of her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Watkins of Spring street in the Stanley Ba singer ambulance, Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. John Nonnamaker and son, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Chidester and son, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Eikenber ry of Ada and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Eik enberry enjoyed a picnic dinner with relatives at Grand Rapids, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Morgan have left for Sylvania where he is music instructor in the schools for the coming year. They spent the past week with her parents Dr. and Mrs. W. M. Niswander of South Jackson street. Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Stettler, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Wiebe and daughter of Willard visited over the Labor day week end at the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Cox and daughter in Ashta bula and Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Stettler and family of Cleveland. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Agin of North Mound street are at the Lyle Rest home in Dunkirk for an indefinite time. Mr. Agin, who has been ser iously ill is much improved and ob served his eighty-first birthday anni versary, Monday. The couple will be pleased to have their friends call. Mr. and Mrs. Don Smucker of Chicago visited at the home of his mother, Mrs. B. D. Smucker of South Lawn avenue over the week end. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Smucker of Wadsworth, who had visited at the home of his mother for two weeks, returned to Wadsworth Monday. Mr. and Mrs. V. E. Green of Ham ilton, Ontario and Sherman Ewing of Lima visited here Thursday. Mr. Green, formerly of this place, who was for many years employed by the Imperial Oil company of Canada, re cently retired and expects to make his future home in the United States. Among those from out of town who attended burial services held at Maple Grove cemetery, Thursday afternoon for Samuel D. Romey of Los Angeles were: Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Romey and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Romey and daughter of Richmond, Ind., and Mrs. Dennis Zimmerman and children of Antwerp. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Newland and two daughters left for their home in Columbia. Mo., after visiting at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Trippiehorn of South Main street, the past week. Mr. Newland who is an instructor in the conservatory of music at Stephena college at Colum bia., taught the past summer at Los Vegas, New Mexico in the state uni versity. Mrs. DeLos Kervin and little son, formerly of Port Huron, Mich., who have been visiting here for the past month at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cleon Triplett of South Main street, left Wednesday for their new home in San Diego, Calif. They were accompanied by Mrs. Kervin’s mother who will spend two months in California. Mrs. Kervin will be re membered here as the former Miss Dorothy Rae Triplett. Her husband. Dr. Kervin, recently disposed of his dental practise in Port Huron and en listed as a dentist in the navy medi cal corp with the rank of lieutenant. Carl Trippiehorn who is in mili tary training at Camp Knox, Ky., spent the week end at his home here. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Steiner and son Billy of Toledo spent Wednesday with Mrs. S. W. Steiner and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Augsburger. Robert and Ann Dukes spent the week end with their brother, Lewis Dukes who is in army training at Ft. Benning, Georgia. Miss Marceille Steiner of Poplar street enjoyed a week end motor trip to scenic points in Logan county and other places in southern Ohio. Wayne, formerly of this place, left the first of the week for North Hollywood, Calif., where she will visit at the home of her daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Getties were in Mt. Gilead, Wednesday afternoon at tending the funeral of a close friend, Wm. G. McClain, who died suddenly in that city on Monday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Schmerl and Robert Watkins, Jr., of Chicago spent the first of the week visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Watkins and family of Spring street. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Getties and daughter Zitella, spent the week end at Wellston, visiting the former’s father, Henry Gttles and attended the Gettles-Johnson reunion on Sunday. Miss Amelia Basinger who spent a month’s vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Basinger returned Sunday evening to Glen Cove, Long Island, where she is employed as a registered nurse. Glen Slusser who received his Mas ter’s degree this summer at Duke un iversity visited at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. A. Slusser over the holiday week end. He is teaching at South Amherst high school. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hixon of Hillsboro spent the week end with his mother, Mrs. Zella Hixon. Raymond, who received his master of arts degree from Ohio State university last week is an instructor in Hillsboro high school. Miss Sylvia Thutt who attended summer school at Kent State college spent several days vacation the past week at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Thutt of South Main street. She left Monday for Tiffin where she will teach the coming year. Homemade ice cream with cake and chicken sandwiches will be served at a social this Wednesday evening at St. John’s Reformed church lawn begin ning at 7 p. m. In case of rain social will be held in church basement. Both women and their children returned early this summer from China where they were engaged in mission work. Their hus bands who remained in China at that time are now also enroute home. Lauby and family' who have Deen visiting rel atives and friends in Bluffton and vicinity will leave Friday for their home in Van Nuys, Calif., making the trip by auto. Mr. Lauby, who learned the printing trade at the Bluffton News office is superintend ent of the printing department of McKinley Home for Boys at Van Nuys. Mr. and Mrs. G. P. Schnegg, for mer Bluffton residents, who have heen visiting in Bluffton and Beav erdam for the past month left Mon day returning to their home in Alhambra. Calif. They are making the trip by auto. Mr. Schnegg was a former Bluffton auto salesman and garage proprietor. He and his wife moved to California twelve years ago where they have since resided. ijc SOCIETIES and CLUBS Amico Club The Amico club will open its fall meetings with a hamburger fry at the roadside park near Findlay Fri day night. The second meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Bess Goodman of North Main street Sept. 17. Christian Service Society The Woman's Society of Christian Service of the Methodist church will hold its September meeting in the church basement Thursday night at 8:00 o’clock. Hostesses are Mes dames Forrest Steinman, Nelson Steiner, Alva Scoles, B. R. Shafer. Mrs. D. R. Trippiehorn will lead the devotions and Mrs. F. J. Harmon will be in charge of the program. Mrs. Samuel Bixel, who recently underwent a major operation at the Bluffton hospital is convalescing at her home. Miss Ruth Locher, formerly of Bluffton, now residing in Cleveland, stopped in Baltimore, recently while on a trip through the east and vis ited Miss Doris Diller, nurse at Johns Hopkins hospital. George Reunion There was an attendance of 70 at the twenty-first reunion of the George family held at Orange township com munity house, Saturday. The oldest member of the reunion living is Mar tin George, 87, of Davidson, Mich. Those coming from the greatest distance to attend the reunion were Mrs. Selma Overocker, Mrs. Chas. George and children James and Ger aldine from Huntington Park, Calif. Others present were: 19 from Flint, Iona, Davidson and Langsburg, Mich. 5 from Alliance 4 from Cleve land 4 from Middletown 5 from To ledo and others from Bucyrus, Ada, Findlay, Bluffton and Lafayette. Fred George of Iona ,Mich., was elected president for the coming year and his wife was chosen secretary. Mrs. O. D. Brehman left Wednes day morning, returning to her home in Glendora, Calif., after spending the past two months here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Agin. Mr. and Mrs. Agin who were both ill are now much improved and lo cated at Lyle Rest home in Dunkirk. Miss Adelaide McGinnis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. A. McGinnis of Garau street returned Sunday from a week’s stay at Chicago.
