THURSDAY, JUNE 8, 1944 r', }$ X. i» One Ton of Fish Ordered The club officers have placed an order through the Conservation office at Sandusky for one ton of fish for restocking purposes. The ton ship ment will constitute channel catfish and present plans are to release the shipment in the Buckeye and Nation al Quarries for restocking purposes. In addition to the catfish, 1000 crappies are on order to be delivered with the same shipment. The fish order will in all probabili ty be delivered in the next few days and a check for $150.00 was sent to pay the commercial fishermen at Danbury for the shipment. The order will be delivered by the Con servation department and the fish will be seined from Lake Erie. Summer Meetings Cancelled Silas Diller, program chairman, says the club will not have regular meetings during June, July, and Au gust. The directors will continue to meet each month to transact regular business and the membership is in vited to attend. These meetings will be announced through this column. Rodeo Plans Made The directors of the Bluffton Saddle Horse Club and The Sports men’s Club have had several combin ed meetings in regards to a Rodeo Rockport Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Campbell were week end guests of their daughter Mrs. Delmar Reagan in Dayton. Mrs. Reagan w’ho has been teaching music in the Dayton schools will complete her work this w’eek and plans to join her husband Lieut. Reagan in Buffalo, N. Y. Mrs. Bruce Thomas of Rawson spent Friday afternoon with her cousin Mrs. Orlo Marshall. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas, son George and grand son Robert left Monday for Pres cott, Ariz., where they plan to make their home. Their son Lowell and family have resided there for a couple of years. Miss Madeline Bixel w’ho teaches in Rittman has completed her school year and returned to Pandora w’here she plans to spend the summer. At present she is caring for her sister Mrs. F. C. At present plans are being formed to hold the exhibition on the 4th of July. Per mission has been obtained from the school board to have the contest held on Harmon Field at night under the floodlights. The spectacle attracted nearly 3000 spectators last fall when held on Schmidt’s field. The display of horsemanship will be open to con testants from Northwestern Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan. Fishing Contest The fish have the laugh on the suckers on the other end of the pole, for during the past week not a single banded fish was captured. This maxes the second straight week the banded fish have eluded the fishermen. Only 11 of the 49 banded bass and blue gills have been captured to date. A few’ blue gills are snagged from time to time, but fishing in general has been poor in this territory the past 10 days. Bass are still on spawn and open season will not commence until June 16th. Buckeye Motor Boating Prohibited This Year At a unanimous decision of the directors it was decided to dis continue motor boating on the Buck near Cairo attended Decoration Day services here and took dinner with Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Marshall. Mrs. Ray Shank of Portland, Ind., returned home after spending the week with her sister Mrs. Harold Marshall and other relatives in Pandora. John Marshall returned home with her for the w’eek end. Rev. and Mrs. E. N. Bigelow and son Bruce of Bluffton were Friday evening dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Pickens. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Cupp and daughter Margery and Mr. and Mrs. William Cupp spent Sunday in the home of Mr. and Mrs. David Core near West Liberty. Miss Lois Armentrout, sister of Rev. Charles and Rev. Chester Ar mentrout, who returned from China on the last trip of the Gripsholm, will speak at 8 o’clock Friday even ing in the Presbyterian church in Columbus Grove. Anyone interested is cordially invited to this meeting. A heavy restocking program is in progress at the quarry and every day the shores are fre quented by fishermen from the com munity. The directors feel the ma jority of the membership prefer the absence of motors on the quarry for this season. It is still permissable to have row boats and canoes on the quarry. Rodeo Season Opens First rodeo of the season will be held at Tiffin next Sunday'afternoon under auspices of the Tiffin Lions club. The exhibition wrill be directed by the Buckeye Western Horse As sociation of which a number of Bluff ton horsemen are members. Fancy roping and trick riding will be featured. Loses Bird Dog One of the best bird dogs of this territory passed on to its happy hunting grounds the first of the week with the death of “Sandy”, a fully pedigreed setter. The animal was 12 years old and owned by George W. Combs who raised it from a puppy. It was an excellent hunter and George has many photographs of the dog on point and retrieving. The orange-tan and white marked setter was the son of an English setter and its mother was a Llewellyn. in Cleveland. Mrs. Cahill was the former Jean Marshall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orlo Marshall. Mrs. Helen Wells and Mrs. Sibyl Mollett of Bluffton w’ere entertained Sunday in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Wells and family. Mr. and Mrs. Chris Gratz of Bluffton and Miss Martha Fruchey took dinner Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Freet and daughter Ruth.
