THURSDAY, FEB. 7, 1946 Breaking the jinx of a long seven game losing streak, Bluffton High eagers found their stride again Tuesday night to drub Columbus Grove, 48 to 25, on the local court. In romping to an easy win, the Pirates gained momentum as the game progressed, racking, ^up 26 points in the last half while per mitting their foes to score only six. Mr. and Mrs. Odell Alspach of Day ton spent the week end visiting his father, O. O. Alspach w’ho is ill and Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Alspach of North Jackson street. Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Trippiehorn have returned from Columbia, Mo., where they spent several weeks at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Newland and family. Mr. and Mrs. Cal Leiber and Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Stettler visited Sun day with Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Burk holder and Mr. and Mrs. Claude Nap ier and family of Beaverdam. 1st Lt. Victor Krajci of Youngs town was a guest in the home of Joel Kimmel of South Main street the past week. The two were close friends in the Army air corps, being stationed together for the past eight months at bases in Texas, New Mexico and Colorado. William Lucas of Wheeling, W. Va.» and Miss Mary Margaret Basinger, students at Wooster college were week end guests at the home of the latter’s parents, Dr. and Mrs. Evan Basniger of Spring street. Mrs. Arthur Schyllander of Toledo is here caring for her grandfather, Chris Santschi of Easi Kibler street. Mrs. Arthur Santschi who has been here was called to Chicago because of the illness of her husband at that place. Mr. and Mrs. George Rauenbuhler are in Columbus attending the Master Plumbers’ convention at the Deshler Wallick hotel, from Sunday until Thursday.^ Mrs. Rauenbuhler is a delegate on the state board of the Ladies Auxiliary of Master Plum bers, having served two years repre senting members at large. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Deerhake and son Donnie visited Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Verne Camp and daughter Linda of Celina. Dana Mathewson has gone to Ariz ona for benefit of his health and will remain there for an indefinite time. Mrs. Earl McClish of Rawson is visiting her brother, Edgar Jackson in Belvidere, Ill., who is improving after a serious illness of a heart ail ment. Mrs. Myron Elliott and daughters Rose Mary and Bonnie Sue of Phoe nix, Arix, Mrs. Ethel Roberts and daughter Virginia of Los Angeles and Mrs. Ada Roberts of Col. Grove were dinner guests last Wednesday evening of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Augs burger and family. Mr. Elliott was unable to attend as business called him out of town Settlement Charles Hummon formerly of this vicinity and for many years operated a large farm near Leipsic will soon hold a public sale at his place of residence and move to a farm near Arcadia that he purchased recently. Rev. and Mrs. P. J. Boehr were Wednesday supper guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Loha veitzer near Benton Ridge. Mrs. Dean Knight of Sheridan, Ill., left the fore part of the week for her home after attending the funeral of her mother and visiting her relatives. Howard Welty is in Memorial Hos pital at Lima where he is under ob servation following complete loss of sight. Mr. Welty in company with Mr. Michel, his farm hand, had gone to Florida by truck to bring a load of fruit, and before reaching their des tination was stricken and was then brought back by plane. Special services at St. John church under the direction of Rev. Claude Curtis of San Francisco, Calif., are being well attended and his messages are very inspiring. Galen Lugibihl returned home Tuesday with his discharge from military service. The funeral service for David Schu macher were largely attended at St. John church Sunday afternoon. The Girl’s Missionary Society of St. John held their regular meeting at the home of Misses Marcele and Esther Reichenbach, Tuesday evening. Miss Catherine Gratz, missionary on furlough from Africa, was the speaker. Mr. and Mrs, Ralph McGranahan returned Sunday from Florida where they spent a number of weeks. Mary Ann Bridenbaugh w’ho is at tending school M. Cleveland visited with her folks at home over Sunday. East Orange Edward Frick of near Harrod spent last Monday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Rayon Boutwell and child ren. The Women’s Missionary meeting of the Riley Creek Baptist church will be held in the home of Mrs. Fred Boutwell on Wednesday Feb. 13th. Mid-week prayer meeting will be held in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Stager on Wednesday evening Feb. 6th. Carl Gallant and family moved from the Collinwood farm to the J. Harvey Gallant farm. Mr. and Mrs. John Nonnamaker and son Jimmie of near Bluffton spent Sunday with the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Nonna maker and family. Librarian Clerk Of Library Board Miss Ocie Anderson, librarian in charge of Bluffton’s public library, was named clerk of the library board at the last meeting of that group. The board voted a salary of $10 monthly for the position. Miss Anderson succeeds Leland Diller who has been clerk of the board since it was organized twelve years ago. Club}, JCpdg.eS and Societies Engagements Announced Announcement of the engagements of Miss Helen Soldner and Miss Ruth Soldner, registered nurses at Bluff ton hospital was made at a party at the home of the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. T. Soldner, Tuesday night. The affair Tuesday night was the quarterly social event of the hospital nursing staff to which was invited a number of intimate friends. Both nurses are graduates of Bethel hos pital at New’ton, Kansas and joined the hospital staff here last summer. Miss Helen Soldner is engaged to Wayne Topham of Peabody, Kansas. No date has been announced for the wedding. Miss Ruth Soldner, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. T. H. Soldner of Berne, Ind., is the bride-elect of Elwyn Hartzler of Mulberry, Florida, a for mer Bluffton college student. Their wedding will take place March 2 after which they will be engaged in relief work in Porto Rico under the direction of the Mennonite Central committee.
