He received a commission and will be secretary to the captain of the U. S. S. Dorothea. Twenty-four youngsters passed the Richland township 8th grade school exams and will enter high school. They are: Alberta Basinger, Alma Luginbill, Ellen Balmer, Juanita Burkholder, Edgar Bixel, Clyde Jen nings, Viola Swaney, Ellen Bixel, Alma Steiner, Mabel Matter, Estella Hirschfield, Esther Gromann, Rhoda Amstutz, Edith Badertscher, Crystal Baker, Esther Fett, Reno Gratz, Nellie Scoles, Lenore LaRue and Raymond Schaublin. Running five miles over a heavy course in 30 minutes and 33 seconds, Elmer Fett residing south of town won for Bluffton High School the school meet at Findlay. He was awarded two silver cups for the feat. Nile Murray and Glen Scoles finished 6th and 7th respectively. One hundred and fifty-six entries were made for the race. Due to very bad weather only 18 started the run. Mrs. Abe Spangler is at Ports mouth attending the state assembly of the Rebekah lodge. Two fine teams were shipped here Saturday evening to Fred Triblehom, local agent for the Standard Oil Co. Reports from the “down under” na tions which harvest com during U. S. winter months indicate total world corn production in 1945-46 was 5, 050,000,000 bushels, about 4 per cent less than the preceding year’s pro duction. Production was less in North America, Europe, and Africa but was greater in South America. The Russia and Asiatic corn crop for 1945-46 is estimated to have been larger than in the previous year. Shearing time gives the best chance to take inventory on the ewes. Those which have no lambs should be culled and sold for meat as soon after being shorn as possible.
