Needs MORE death when the word leaked out and prices of possible building sites soared however, reports persist that Bluffton’s proposed roadside park on North Main street near Buckeye lake which didn’t jell last summer is now reasonably certain and that frost Saturday night gave cherry and peach prospects the hardest bump of the season—and did considerable damage to the out look for an apple crop and Bluffton householders whose coal bins were empty and no coal to be had did everything short of breaking up the family furniture to obtain firewood. High school band uniforms—in bright reds and blues and dazzling greens with more gold braid than that of a navy admiral of the fleet— paraded Bluffton’s streets last Sat urday. It was a gala affair when youths from nearly a score of Northwestern Ohio high schools were here for a band contest. And be it said to the credit of the crowd that it was a well-behaved, orderly lot of young people who thronged Bluff ton’s eating places and bought up all the chocolate bars in sight and then started on cookies. It was a field day for Bluffton groups interested in the promotion of uniforms for the high school band here, giving everyone an opportunity for a closeup of some of the lead ing school band’s regalia. And while the Northwestern Ohio group was contesting for honors here, the Carrollton high school mu sicians, directed by Herbert Jones, former Bluffton college student was winning top places in the Eastern Ohio district contest at Muskingum college. Dandy, 60-year-old surgeon of Johns Hopkins hospital, Baltimore, one of the world’s leading brain specialists, recalled to Bluffton people that Miss Doris Diller, daughter of the John A. Dillers of North Jackson street, a nurse in that hospital, had worked with him for a number of years on surgical cases. Dr. Dandy developed a number of new procedures in brain surgery and was the author of books on the subject. Another News reader who quali fies for the 50-year subscribers’ club is Horace Stratton, south of Bluff ton. He has been taking the News for 55 years and his father, Asa Stratton was one of the original subscribers when the paper was founded back in 1875 and it has always been in the family since. Glad to see Philip Conser in town, Saturday, with the band of Toledo Waite high school. Well, Burma broke loose from her moor ings and went on a one-hour spree while the circus was showing at Marion last week as you may have seen by press dispatches. Her principal depredation consist ed of flattening backyard fences as she wandered thru alleys upsetting garbage cans and investigating the contents for tempting morsels. Burma was just careless—not vic ious. She was finally cornered at a street intersection and recaptured by police and a truckload of circus em ployes.
