Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ignat of Oberlin, former Bluffton college students stop ped here Monday afternoon and visi ted friends. Mr. Ignat was released from the navy a month ago. Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Basinger and daughter of Pandora and John Lugibill of near Pandora visited Sun day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Suter. Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Wiebe and dau ghter Judith Ann of Willard visited Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Stettler and at tended May day activities at the Col lege, Saturday. Charles Dillman, son of Charley Dillman of Jackson street under went an operation for hernia, Tues day, at the Birmingham General hospital, Van Nuys, Calif. Mrs. Lillian McConnaughey visited over the week end at the home of her mother, Mrs. Bertha Woods of West College avenue. Mrs. Woods’ son, Harold, of Detroit is spending the week here. Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Trippiehorn of South Main street and son Dr. Jason Trippiehorn of Philadelphia have returned from a three weeks’ visit at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Newland and family in Columbia, Missouri. Merlin Mumma, Raymond Mont gomery, Frenas Herrmann and Gerald Clever spent a two days’ out ing over the week end fishing at Morrison lake near Hillsdale. Fish ing was fair despite rainy weather. Clever hooked the biggest fish, a 14 inch crappie. Mrs. Paul Studler and Miss Metta Kohli were called to Mansfield, Tues day to attend the funeral of Mrs. John Berger. Mrs. Berger was well known here having frequently visited at the home of Mrs. Studler of South Jackson street. Rev. J. A. Weed and Nelson Steiner are representing the Bluffton Methodist church at the annual Ohio conference of that denomination in session at Monroe Street Methodist church in Toledo. The conference which opened Tuesday night will continue over next Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Huber en tertained at their home north of Bluffton, Sunday: Mr. and Mrs. Marion Powell and daughter, E. D. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Amstutz of De troit and Mr. and Mrs. Dwain Mur ray of Ashland spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Amstutz of Thurman street and attended Bluff ton college commencement festivi ties. 11. E. Griffith and daughter Miss Margaret Griffith of South Lawn avenue and Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Wahl of Findlay are on a motor trip to Schenectady and Buffalo, N. Y., this week. Mr. and Mrs. Theron Bibler of Bell, Calif., have been visiting at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Carr, north of Bluffton. Mrs. Bibler is the former Miss Pauline Carr. During the absence of Mr. and Mrs. Bibler, their home in California is being occupied by Mrs. Josephine Carnahan, a former Bluffton resident living in Arcadia, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Miller of Cleveland spent Wednesday here. Mr. Miller is a former Bluffton resi dent. Memorial Exercises Here Next Thursday Memorial Day exercises in the Bluffton High auditorium at 11 a. m. Thursday of next week will follow the customary American Legion ex ercises in Maple Grove cemetery an hour earlier. Rev. Kenneth Leary, Methodist minister of Van Wert and a Legion naire, will be tlw speaker at the services in the school. Business and industry generally will be suspended in the town for the observance of Memorial Day, and there will be no mail deliveries on either town or rural routes. Appears Before Senate Committee Floyd Byers, executive of a milk condensing plant in Goshen, Ind., and son of Dean N. E. Byers of East Kibler street represented the dairy industry of Indiana before a Senate committee in Washington last Wednesday and Thursday in a series of conferences pertaining to current legislation of interest to the trade. He was appointed by the Dairy Industry committee and the Dry Milk Institute, national trade organiza tions. Byers was formerly director of the Indiana Dairy Products associa tion, auxiliary member of the State Creamery License board and chair man of the Milk and Cream Quality Improvement Group of Northern Indiana. Bluffton's Progress Reviewed For Lions Bluffton’s accomplishments in the 33 years he has been a resident of the town were reviewed Tuesday night by N. E. Byers, former dean at Bluffton college, at a dinner meet ing of the Lions club. Outstanding achievements over the span of more than three decades have included a modern municipal power plant, Harmon field, the stadium and its lighting system, a centralized six year high school a public library a municipal swimming pool, a new 30 bed hospital ,the modem post office building, establishment of religious education classes in the high school and extensive business and industrial expansion. Needed most by the town in the immediate future is a sewage dispos al system, an airport, a new elemen tary school building, an addition to the Community hospital and a gym nasium-auditorium at the college, the speaker said. Scene of the wedding will be the baseball field where col lege May queens are crowned. Dr. L. L. Ramseyer, Bluffton college president will officiate. The bride-elect was graduated from the college here last year. Mr. Luginbuhl will receive his degree this summer. Work in Entered Appren tice degree. a Coming Wedding Samuel Augsburger of Beaverdam announces the approaching marriage of his niece, Miss Vera Marie Burkholder to Mr. Virgil Allgire, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Allgire of Rockport. The wedding will take place Sunday, June 2 at the Ebenez er Mennonite church at 2 p. m. with Rev. P. J. Boehr officiating. Both the bride and bridegroom elect are graduates of Beaverdam high school in the class of 1940. Mr. Allgire recently was discharged after 40 months in military service, 15 of which were spent in Europe. June Wedding Donald Ruggley of Lima, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Ruggley of Bluffton and Miss Mary Marguerite Reynolds of Lima wil be married Sunday, June 9, it was announced this week. The bride-elect is the daughter of Mrs. Amelia Reynolds of Lima and Arnie Reynolds of Ottawa. Mr. Ruggley was discharged from the Navy last November following three years’ service. Both are employed in Lima. Farm Women’s Improvement Club Members of the Farm Women’s Improvement club will entertain at their annual Mother-Daughter banquet Thursday night at the Beaverdam high school at 7 o’clock. High School Alumni Reunion Friday Night Annual reunion of the Bluffton high school alumni association will be held Friday night, beginning with a dinner at *6:30 o’clock in the high school cafeteria for which 148 res ervations have been made. The occasion will mark the fiftieth anniversary of the class of 1896 and the 25th anniversary of the class of 1921. The dinner will be followed by dancing in the gymnasium.
