Mrs. Dorothy Lombardy of Bluff ton spent the week end at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. U. McCullough. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Snavely of Hol gate, formerly of here, are parents of a son bom Friday, April 25th, at Bluffton Community Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. William Cook and daughter have moved to Milwaukee, Wise. Mrs. Cook was the former Wanda Newton. Mrs. Mae Kline will have a public sale, Friday, May 2nd. The Senior class will give their class play “Smiling Through”, May 1 and 2. Mrs. Rosa Geiger Dies Mrs. Rosa Geiger, wife of Tillman Geiger, died at 7:30 a. m. Saturday in her home from a heart ailment. She is survived by her husband, Tillman, two daughters, Arvilla Gei ger, Omaha, Neb. At a recent meeting of the offi cials of the Bluffton, Arlington and Zion Lutheran churches the congre gations were seperated. The congre gations were under one pastorate now Arlington and Zion are to be served by one pastor and Bluffton by another. Doris, son of William Bogart was given a pleasant surprise by a large group of friends on bis 13th birth day. A merry crowd of college students took the unterurban car to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Lugibill west of town, where a party was enjoyed. Linda Amstutz was pleasantly sur prised by a jcrtly crowd of girls at her home on the occasion of her birthday anniversary. A baby girl gladdened the home Mr. and Mrs. Albert Motter. Dan and Ira Moser have purchased Murray Tripplehom, who enlisted in the marine corps recently, received recognition because of his marksman ship. At target practice he made an unusual record, was awarded a med al and given a pay raise of $2.00 per month. In honor of his 12th birthday Howr ard Hahn was given a surprise at the home of his parents, Sunday afternoon. Thirty of his classmates and teachers Misses Faye and Ber tha Mason attended. Following a lun cheon the entire group attended church. The eleventh reunion of the “Has Been Girls” graduates of the Can nonsburg school of 1871 held a re union with Mrs. George Duffman. Mrs. Duffman was elected president of the group at the meeting. The Eli Locher oil well is making a good showing. The well on the Al fred Keel farm proved to be salt water. Ada’s Co. of the National Guard in training during the summer at Ada will leave soon for Alabama. His hand rests on a scale model of a new jet-powered speedboat when its advanced, streamlined design was being wind-tunnel tested for him at Hayes, Middlesex, England. Eli Lora was joking with friends in front of the Bluffton News he scanned the John Hews sale bill in the News window. To his sur prise he learned he was to cry the sale at 10:00 instead of 1:00. Luck was with him and he grabbed a trol ley, making it to the sale just in time. Martin Schmidt and cousins Miss Celia and Emma Wenzinger attended the Catholic missionary lectures at Findlay. A very pleasant valentine surprise was given Miss Ruth West in honor of her 18th birthday anniversary by a number of high school pupils and friends. Miss Lovell Pepple and Mrs. Net tie Hodge left for Piqua to spend the week with Mrs. Forest Thompson. Miss Pearl Bogart will be the pianist for Louis Kreidler, American baritone with the Chicago Opera Co. A milk condensing plant will lo cate here and give employment to 15 men. Assurance of milk production from 500 cows was necessary before company officials would consider this community. Restaurants Rushed Restaurants and stores were crowd ed by the youngsters throughout the day, and parking space was unob tainable within a two-block radius of the high school, where school buses and automobiles took every inch of available space. Competing in the annual event were 22 instrumental and 55 vocal groups in the four classifications for high schools. Successfully directing the all-day event, one of the largest musical con tests ever held here, was Prof. Rus sell A. Lantz, director of the Bluff ton college department of music, who was general chairman. The college music department sponsored the com petition. Vocal judges were Ellis Snyder, Capital university Dale Gilliland, i Ohio State university, and Daniel Harris, Oberlin Conservatory. Judges for the instrumental division were Arthur L. Williams, Oberlin conserv atory Ernest Manning, Cleveland East high school, and Ray Metcalf, Kent State university. Bluffton Rating Is High Bluffton High’s success in last week’s audition followed competition in solo and ensemble events at Bowl ing Green university the preceding week, in which the local school re ceived five No. 1 ratings. Top honors in the Bowling Green meet were won by Mary K. Bau man and Eleanor Linden, piano solo Paul Don Bixel, flute solo Mary A. Smucker, violin Betty Bixel, violin Mary K. Bauman, viola, and John Bauman, cello, string quartet and Paul Don Bixel, flute Eleanor Lin den, oboe Joann Buhler, clarinet Alice Pannabecker, horn, and Mal colm Basinger, bassoon, woodwind quartet. All are eligible to compete in the state contest to be held at Columbus in May. No. 2 ratings were earned by Treva Althaus, alto solo Mary A. Smucker, violin solo and Sam Buh ler, baritone solo. Placed No. 3 were the senior girls ensemble, Jean Ann Burcky, Joan Clark and Imogene Wenger junior girls ensemble, Dora Jean Lugibihl, Marilyn Fett and Jean Burkholder bass solo, Donald Herr, and tenor solo, Lyman Hofstetter. Many Attend Youth For Christ Rally An attendance estimated at more than 550 attended the opening rally of the Youth for Christ movement in the high school auditorium here Saturday night. The project is sponsored by a Bluffton and Pandora group. Speaker of the evening was Dr. L. H. Ziemer, Toledo radio pastor with Rev. Dwight Niswander of Lima, song leader and special music by the Bluffton college quartet. The next meeting will be held in the Pandora high school gymnasium Saturday night, May 24 at 8 o’clock with Dean Jared Gerig of Ft. Wayne Bible institute speaker. A meeting in Bluffton Will be held- at the high school une 28. Mt. Cory Betty Lou Green was slightly in jured in an accident one night last week when the motor scooter she was riding skidded on the wet pave ment on Route 69. Joe King and an other rider were uninjured when they were thrown clear.
