Come in—today! CHEVROLET LOWEST-PRICED LINE IN ITS FIELD THE BLUFFTON NEWS, BLUFFTON, OHIO lege students. You may remember reading in these notes several weeks ago about Don Robinson, living in the trailer camp “Beaverburg,” who keeps busy at his former business of landscaping when he’s not studying. Then there’s William Paul who has a small truck for all kinds of haul ing and Stan Stauffer and Dave Smucker driving school buses. But busiest of all is John Siemans from Manitoba, Canada, who does paint ing, truck driving, mowing lawns, plowing fields and teaching German all in his spare time—what a man. Despite all the gloomy predictions, this year’s corn crop will germinate if properly handled, says S. S. Bixel, well known hybrid com grower of the Settlement—and he has an ex hibit in the Bluffton News window to prove it. The exhibit consists of a planting of 100 grains of com from last summer’s crop, 97 of which are growing. Here’s one for Ripley—exhibited in the Bluffton News window is an adjustable wrench belonging to John Garlinger although it‘s an oldtimer, John says it’s practical and usable. Fact is it was patented way back in 1857—and believe it or not, by one E. Ripley. Press dispatches recently carried the announcement that the Very Rev. Kirk B. O’Ferrall, D. D., is now acting dean of the Pro-Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, known as the “American Church” in Paris, France. Rev. O’Ferrall was formerly rector of the Episcopal church in Lima more than thirty years ago. Later he served for 17 years as dean of St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral in Detroit Amos Tschiegg in charge of the •hipping department at the Triplett plant found the other day among the old newspapers they use for packing, copies of the old Lima Times-Demo crat dated August 24, 1898. Among leading items of the day the news paper recounted that “Dewey was hot” because of delay in arrival of the Monadnock transport with sol diers and supplies at Manila Insurgents in the Philippines order ed to lay down arms McKinley was president then Another item mentioned Corp. Robert Mc Peak, former Bluffton boy, home from camp at Chickamauga on sick leave as a result of contracting ma laria and typhoid. Denounced con ditions at camp Also notice of a charity restaurant on New York’s Bowery which provides a full meal— all you can eat—for one cent. George Carmack, maestro at the Carma hit on a smart idea when he rigged up the popcorn machine just off the lobby at his show. He is following the suggestions of top flight film theatre executives who will tell you that a plentiful supply of corn—hot-popped, salted and but tered—assures the popularity of any movie. Give him a sack of popcorn and any movie fan will overlook a lot of corn in the film—only we ven ture to suggest that someone invent a silent sack and silent corn—the one behind us the other night had entirely too much in the way of sound effects.
