He stated decline in pheasants is due to lack of proper nesting condi tions. Disturbance and lack of suffi cient cover in nesting season is caused by many factors, he stated. High prices for crops causes the farmer to let less leguminous cover stand which is essential for bird pro duction. Predators and other condi tions, such as hunting pressure etc., also take a big toll of game. The farmer will benefit through the proposed program for he will not only be engaged in soil building ac tivity, but will not have a loss of profit from not planting cash crops. Seed from the legumes may be har vested by the farmer and only a por tion of the farm is to be planted to legumes. Henderschott is interested in locat ing in Bluffton with his family in order to give full attention to the program. He would rent a farm home, although is not interested in farming the acreage, or will consider a house in Bluffton. Any person having a property for rent contact one of the club officers. He also brought out at the meet ing that the state has 6,000 adult pheasants for release in Ohio soon. Birds will only be restocked where cover is adequate. Additional ear corn to feed phea sants in the Bluffton area is avail able by contacting Donald Ramge, Allen County Game Protector. Ram ge can be reached at 118 Poplar street, Bluffton, phone 177-R. Emmett Stauffer distributed a grain bag of ear corn to a flock of pheasants at the rear of the Hirsch ler lot on West Elm street. A large flock is also Wintering in the College orchard near by. Russ Montgomery has been feeding fox squirrels and a number of other men including Joe Bonifas, Star Route carrier, have been distributing ear corn to congre gations of pheasants in the Mount Cory area. The state is interested in purchas ing 40 to 50 bushels of corn for feed ing purposes. Any farmer having same to sell contact the game pro tector. Wilbur Fish handles the game feed ing program for the Sportsmen’s club. The Bluffton News window is supplied with sacks of scratch feed for feeding song birds in town. Same can be had free by the public by call ing at the News office.
