BAUMAN Interior Decorating Phone 229-T 145 Riley Street Bluffton, Ohio Cash Fishing Derby Excitement Soars Anglers Catching Tagged Fish One of the largest channel catfish ever taken from the Buckeye Quarry’ was landed by Merl Duffman last Sunday. The big channel measured 23 inches, and to top off the ex citement carried a prize winning tag 42722A. Duffman was doubly reward ed. Not only did he catch a big fish, but won a celluloid fly case and a dozen flies as a prize. Ralph Marshall sporting goods store, Lima sponsored the fish and furnished the prize. Three other tagged fish were snagged at the Water Works quarry by Lois Green of Mt. Cory. She caught the fish on three successive days. All three were channel cat fish. Prizes were furnished to the lucky angler by Bluffton Stone Company, fish No. 48175A, $2.00 in cash Peter Gratz Store, fish No. 16642B, $2.00 in trade Basinger Florist, fish No. 23389B, $1.00 in trade. Over 240 fish still remain to be caught. Some are in the Water Works quarry’ and others in the Buckey’e quarry. In order to claim a prize angler must be a member of the Bluffton Sportsmen’s Club, and tag from fish taken to Prosser & Prosser Store for certification. Recently’ 3000 channel catfish were stocked in the two quarries at the start of the fishing derby. Placards listing the derby prizes are obtainable at Prosser and Pros ser Store, Thomas Prosser is Sports men’s club manager for the fishing derby*. Plan Fence At New Buckeye Park Authorization was made at the last directors meeting of the Sportsmen’s Club to build a substantial fence at the new Buckeye park as a safeguard for children. Many’ picnics, reunions and gather ings are held at this popular picnic ing spot and the club wishes to make the area as safe as possible as well as attractive. Ir youngster from accidentally toppling into the water. At the meeting it was voted to have the director of the Buckeye park take charge of the fence construction and urged immediate action. Hiram Wenger, park head, has named Ralph Reichenbach and Leon Hauenstein on the committee to plan and supervise the construction. Wenger and the committee plan to construct a strong and durable fence with gates permitting boats to be launched and fishermen to gain easy access to the water’s edge. The committee has already begun to in spect fencing materials and will de cide soon where the fence is to be located. Directors voted $100 to construct the new fence and make other park improvements. A membership drive will begin the forepart of July to enroll delinquent members into the organization. Only half of last year’s membership has enrolled and the club is in need of ad ditional funds to carry’ out projects such as the improvement underway at the new park. Catches Big Muskie Bill Edwards has returned from Wisconsin with a tale of snagging a big muskie. The fish, which measured 42 inches, was landed by Bill and his friend George Gerding at Fishcraft Lake. Bill says this one is the grandad dy to the one he snagged last year and had mounted. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Root and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Root are headed for Minne sota on a two weeks’ fishing vaca tion. Bob Shinaberry, Lima, caught a huge bull frog at the Buckeye last Sunday afternoon. Fish were hitting well and Jim Baldwin had three large catfish on his string er. Water at the Buckeye is unusually clean and clear. Thousands of min nows and many fingerling bass can be seen this summer. The oxygen content of the water seems to be back to normal and aquatic life is flourish ing. Motorboating has become a popular sport at the Buckeye and many en thusiasts have been churning up the water with new outboard motors. Jo el Kimmel and Omar "Welty have pur chased a new boat which is launched on the quarry. Both men have motors purchased this summer. Fishermen and boating enthusiasts are urged to stay away from the swimming area. Armorsville Horace Stratton and daughter, Mrs. Eva Moser returned home Wed nesday afternoon after spending the past two weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hover and family of Arkansas also visited relatives in Missouri. Tommy Owens is spending the week with Don Oates. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Stultz and family of Findlay and Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Klingler were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Mont gomery.
