Market Street Bluffton, Ohio Lima, Ohio Bluffton Netters To Defend Findlay Titles Saturday, July 10th will open the Second Annual Findlay Open Tennis Tournament to be held at the Don nell Courts in Findlay. Tournament play will be held on the weekends of July 10-11 and July 16-17-18. Registration is open to anyone living within a forty mile radius of Find lay. Registrations will close Wed nesday, July 7. Defending champions from 1947 are: men’s singles, Dave Scudder, Bowling Green State University, son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Scudder, Bluff ton men’s doubles, Woodrow Little and Dale Reichenbach, Bluffton Ten nis Club women’s singles, Rowena Solt, Findlay, junior singles, Bill Wadsworth, Findlay junior doubles, Bill Wadsworth and Dick Barrett, Findlay. Winners of the various divisions will be eligible to participate in the Aquarama Tennis Tournament in Toledo during the latter part of July. Bluffton May Join New College Loop Bluffton college is considering membership in a proposed seven school athletic conference, with final decision to be made at organization al meeting of the league August 9 at the Harding hotel in Marion. Listed as prospective members of the new conference are five Ohio and two Indiana small colleges. Thejr include Bluffton, Cedarville, Defiance, Ashland, Rio Grande, Huntington colleges and Taylor uni versity. At a recent meeting in Cedarville to discuss organizational prospects, Coach A. C. Burcky of Bluffton col lege met with representatives of the five Ohio schools. Should organization be completed, conference competition would begin with the 1949 football season. Triplett Wins Over Fostoria, 10-6 Score The Triplett softball team racked up its ninth victory of the season with a 10 to 6 decision over Fostoria Moose in a free-hitting contest at Harmon field, last Friday night. Russ Gratz and Fred Herrmann poled home runs in the hitting at tack of the locals, and Bert Swank had two singles, both of which drove in runs. Timer Spaeth, Bluffton hurler, chalked up his second victory', al lowing eight hits, while his mates were getting 10. The Triplett team’s next home game will be with "'Ottoville next Tuesday, July 13. Triplett Nine Plays Ottoville Tuesday Triplett softballers will be seeking their 10th victory' of the season in a tilt with Ottoville under the flood lights at Harmon field next Tuesday evening. Last year, Ottoville was one of the three teams to defeat the locals, splitting honors with Triplett in a two-game series, and the visitors can be expected to bring a team here with plenty of power. Jess E. Van Fossen, Croton, is a member of the national committee which directs research work to im prove seed production and distribu tion. Monday’ of last week, the teams had one inning played, when a downpour came, and that one inning marks the total play ing time in the schedule to date. One game remains in first round of Minor league play, altho Mathew son’s Stokers have first round hon ors clinched. Hankish’s Scuds, how ever, proved the Stokers are not in vincible by’ defeating them last week by a score of 9 to 7. The second place battle continues between the Scuds and Dunifon’s Corkscrews, with the Corkscrews leading and one game left to be played. Major league teams completed first round play last week, with the Sports men copping honors.
