the steadily lessening number of
shopping days before Christmas—
not yet having started to make out
our gift list and here comes
December 7—remember that was
Pearl Harbor day—and how the
world has changed in the past nine
years and more trouble for a
war weary world, bringing with it
the realization that it may be easier
to win a war than to win a lasting
peace.
That big November snow coming
so unexpectedly, caught a lot of
motorists on the road. Among them
School Superintendent and Mrs.
Murray, enroute home from Phila
delphia where they spent Thanks
giving with their daughter, were
marooned in a small Pennsylvania
town for several days, along with a
lot of other travelers.
One of the most frustrated of the
stranded group was a motorist re
turning from Florida who was with

half hour getting the stranger on
the road—who then sped off down
the road without even a word of

Edinburgh, Scotland, had Ohio
turkey for their Thanksgiving day

band for the traditional American
feast day.

Something new has been added to
Bluffton’s holiday events—success of
window shopping night last Friday
exceeded expectations of even the
most optimistic. Despite overcast
skies and slush covered roads and
streets, crowds milled through the
business section peering in lighted
windows looking for prize winning
numbers.
Many of the sightseers looked in
vain for the number on the gift in
the window of Hankish’s confection
ery—looking right past it which was
painted in big white figures on the
show window. Also seen were late
comers around midnight peering into
the then darkened windows with the
aid of flashlights.
