The Angels of Heaven rejoiced to see this blessed hope given unto man, but for these many years, by and large, man has consistently ignored God’s Holy Gift, the “pearl of great price.” In the Bible we read what God has to say about His priceless gift to man—the Gift of Eternal Life “And this is the promise that He has promised us, even eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever be lieveth in Him should not periah, but have everlasting life.” 1st John 2:25, John 3:16. “And this is the record, that God hath given us eternal life, and this life is in the Son. He that hath the Son hath life and he that hath not the Son hath not life.” 1st John 5:11, 12. God will not force His ma and it must be acknowledged an have everlasting life. No gift and in the Word we read, “But become the sons of God, even to| them that believe in His Name: saith unto him, I am the way, th4 truth, the life no man cometh unto the Father but by me.” John 14:6. We wish to take this opportunity to wish you and yours a pleasant Christmas and trust that “the peace of God whi passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” hil. 4:6, 7. Aloore, cdutkor Of ‘.Nigkt /Before’, WaJ cdikamed of 3t 3 3 Everyone knows and loves the poem which begins— ’Twas the night before Christ mas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse but the man who wrote it, Dr. Clement Clarke Moore, was a shamed of it and would not allow it to be published under his name for more than 20 years. Dr. Moore, an aloof professor of Greek and Oriental literature in the Episcopal Seminary in New York, wrote the poem on Christ mas eve 1822 and read it to his seven children. He had not planned for the poem to go further than his own family, but a relative who was visiting the Moores put a copy in her diary. The next year the relative’s father sent it to a newspaper. Other newspapers printed the jingles and they quickly became known all over the country. The dignified Dr. Moore was embar rassed and considered it beneath a man of his scholastic standing to be the author of children s jingles. Twenty-two years later, how ever, he finally publicly admitted authorship of the jingles and it was published in book form under his name for the first time.
