at Iho gallery, hut on Sunday, Kogors
told him that ho must find another
Jdaco to' sleep. On Sunday night
togera went to church, and Conner
is reported to havo gono to bed in tlic

Clarenco Kennedy, a young man cm
ployed at thegtillery, went to tho rooms
and found Rogers lying on tho floor,
apparently dead, nnd with his head
pounded into almost a jelly. Ho at
oneo ran over for lr. Falconer' who
found that lingers was not dead, but
in a cniiiatoso state, Iroiu which he
never rallied, dying about 2 P. M.
The sola, wall nud floor of the gallery
were covered with blood, but It wa
perhaps impossible to tell whether a

whether Rogers hud been asultud

with a hutuhet had becu showered

tho date of our advices, ami it was
feared that others would not survive.
A mong those whoso death ensued
were a family named Melliugcr, con
sisting of man, wife and child. A
sister of Or. Campbell, an intelligent
and interesting young lady, died in a

Tho calomel containing tho poison
was put up iu the ordinary way, and
had not bceu lain pored with alter leav
ing tho store of a wholcsalo druggist
iu St. Louis, by whom it was imported
from F.tigland. Tho presence of cor
rosive sublimate was probably due to
a culpable carelessness, rather than
design, at the laboratory of tho manu
facturer. If this hypothesis is correct,
it is terrifying to think of the possiblo
consequences in other parts of tho
country. V J,mi Kijmllwun.
SteT" President Johnson sent a tele
cgrani to Ciov Ilolden of North Car
olina, directing that the llebel debt
should bo repudiated. Tho Conven
tion before adjourning, complied with
tlio direction, as it probably would
have dono with any other expressed
wish of tho l'residcut.
ttoQTtiK uotorious guerrilla Champ
Furguson, was hanged at Nashville
yesterday. Tho execution was Btriet-
ly private. An account of tho execu
tion will be found in another column
iu this week's Trilmut.
