TIFFIN TRIBUNE.

For the Tribune.
Hints to Farmers.
No. 11.
Il should be in my way cf thinking,
the aim of every good Farmer, to
practice economy as f.ir as praetica
b!a, though thero are a great many
things that farmers do that are attend
ed with a great deal of expense, and
what would a?cm to bo by somo un
necessary expensu in building and re
pairing, but in the outlet ho finds
himself amply repaid fur all Hs time,
expense and trouble tho correct the
ory is, whatever you do, do it well.
Some Farmers in building sheds for
shcop pons, for bogs, rta'jlus for hor
ses and rows, are content with but
tdinporary and half pent up concern,
whilo they are abundantly able to
have thoe that are right and good,
when if they would just for ono mo
meet, consider the time and expenno
they are at, io repairing and rebuild
ing every year those, temporary con
cerns (for snch I cull them) they
would find they had spent more time
and money, than it rotilJ have taken
to build good and rightly constructed
sheds A J. in tho commence inent. Still
man needs ezpcrieuco to do most
every thing on tho Farm, ami which
is not obtainod in ono dny, nor one
year, but tho way to get good deal
of information is to taken good rifii
cultural paper und read tho experi
ence old and Well drilled Farmers;
also by noticing what ethers do
around hi in, and ho can form n good
opinion of about what ho should do
himself, then 'act aveordMig'y, and
then he may bo pretty certain of a
good roturn for nil his trouble. Now
I propose, to speak of tlio 11101I0 and
manner of constructing thing on a
Farm for keeping sheep, nnd which
I think aro thu nwt convenient,
each as sheds, ribbed rarks ktt., and
if any ono choose to differ with mo
in any thing 1 havo said, .or which 1
may say, I would bo pleased to havo
them sot for:t clearly their iden in
what ever they may differ with mo,
through the columns of (hi paper if
they chooso to do so.
The first, thing to bo thought of in
buiUing sheep ulu'ds, is how to ob
tain tho greatest amount of room, tn-d.-r
tho least amount of roofing, and
with tho least expense possiMo.
Kvery shed hhould bo built with
enough hay loft over it, to keep as
many sheep as tho shod is capnblo of
holding through a long and todious
winter. Somo preler square aheds,
aud somo long and narrow, but fur
mj, I would havo them built about
thirty foot wido by thirty-six foet
long, leaving tho ni Jo which is least
exposed to tho hard driving storms if
wilder, opcu, there being no sill on
that sido I would have tho pot'ta set
on lurgo stoucs let into tho ground so
that about one foot of them remained
above tho surface, then nnil about
three-vighth im h wido boards from
oae post to another, (so as to bo
readily taken uw.iy in tho spring)

tween them to admit uir, and leavu

sheep to go in and out at, which you
can roadilykclose by means of a pick
et gate or a pieco of portable fenco i

hay you drop (while filling tho racks)
into tho ninrjuro, aud you can pick it

when you let your sheep' in, closo
tho entrance. If you are feeding
them grain, havo your ' trougha out
aide of tho i lied, w ith otio end stand
ing to the opening, or near it; in the
niovuing put your grain iuto tho
troophs, let out your sheep and they
will divide as they come out, part go
ing on oue side and pf rt on tho oth
cr, as soon a they aro all out close
again the entrance of tlio shid, and
you are ready to fill tho racks with
hay; but I tiou't feed my sheep graiu.
I have a Jarge square rack, large
enough to hold sufficient hny to Gil
nil the racks. I throw tho hay

over it whilo I am filling the other
racks, for every farmer that has had
anything to do with sheep, knows,
thA when evey they tramp over hay

reading what others havo to ssy,
which often time apply exaetly to
his own ease, and ho may by express
ing his own opinions and beliefs ad
vance, some idea of prent value to
som other farmer; thereforo I think
every person, whether farmer or not,
should seek as well as ire good ad
vice, on whatever subject they are most
familiar with.
There are innny other points about
sheep which would ha very interesting
if they were noticed by farmers dur
ing every season of tho jear,somo ol
whirl) I mny speak of in future, not
only of sheep, but rnttlo, horses and

Tho wheat crop, iincovcrod by tho
melting of tho snow (and once more
wrapped over with tho same genial
covering) wsa found, everywhere in
Ohio, to bo looking well.
