The place fur meeting wai at the crooiiif of
the Tortlaud road and the Ailamt and flea,

to a center, long, dark columns, with hoisted
banners, waving start and stripes, reminding
the soldier (for there wero some there) of by

addresses were Interspersed with evcllenl
singing by the different schools. At 12
o'clock the most Interesting scene of all tok
place. Three hearty cheers for the basket
picnic, enough to make the trees shake, were
given by the large congregation, after whit h
there arose on the air, by the large bund of
martial music, the soul-stirring, national sa
lute, "Yankee Doodle" at which signal a
charge was tnaile on the basket by every,
body noltody hurt, but a terrible deduc
tion on turkles, chickens, enkns of every de
scription, anil a quantity uf other good things
too numerous tu mention; the like of which
Is difficult tu excel. Hut it become us to nn.

gentlemen. Sir, It would bo difficult to find,
in any community, a better-to do, more In
telligent, or handsome class of cnple. In
telligence In a community is one of the great
