Colonel J. W. Howard, of Michigan, addressed the Democracy of this filace at the Court-house, in a apcoch of more than twn hours in length, on Saturday evening last, lie said some things funny, some things ridiculous, and some things presisicmus. lie talked a great deal that didn't amount to much. Among other things, he gaveus the information that the Republican party waa defunct. This is certainly news to us, and all we hare to asy is that it is the lives! dead institution that we are acquainted wild. How unfortunate (for the Democracy) that Vermont, Maine, Colorado and New Mexico were not possessed of the same information that this gifted champion of the Democracy imparted to bis hearers! A frightful calamity, on Friday or last week, about 11 o'clock, east a gloom npon onr com munity. In tiring ihe cannon, after the Repub licans had raised their pole and run up their flag, a prematura discharge took place, by which one person was sliehtlr injured and two others terribly mangled. After thecartridge of powarr naa ooen sent to its place in the Run, a wisp of hay was rolled into a ball and after being sraked in water, was rammed to its place, but before there was time to withdraw the ramrod, the load was discharged, .nd the two rammers Sami'RL Farrkr, Jr., and rri rrick lloi.i.iota sent reeling to the ground, mangled, hnined, bleeding and blackened wilh powder. Their clothes w ere literally torn into ahreds and the ramrod was splintered into a thousand fragments. Both arms of young Farrkr were lorn to pieces below the elbows, presenting a ahapeless muss of flesh and blood. His fare was also severely lacerated, o that It was at first sop posed that both eyes were gone, but such, we are pleased to say, ia not the ease.
