trust and responsibility, with a clearer, brighter
record. Not a dollar, cent or mill was unac

go with him. His integrity of character and
faithfulness in the discharge of duty will prove

The Democracy. Colonel J. W. Howard,
of Michigan, addressed the Democracy of this
filace at the Court-house, in a apcoch of more
than twn hours in length, on Saturday evening
last, lie said some things funny, some things
ridiculous, and some things presisicmus. lie
talked a great deal that didn't amount to much.
Among other things, he gaveus the information
that the Republican party waa defunct. This
is certainly news to us, and all we hare to asy
is that it is the lives! dead institution that we
are acquainted wild. How unfortunate (for the
Democracy) that Vermont, Maine, Colorado
and New Mexico were not possessed of the same
information that this gifted champion of the
Democracy imparted to bis hearers!
Entrioi and Terms at the Stat Fair. Vo
are informed that a misunderataauding exists
in ui.inr portions of oar eiatuty, as regarda
the entrance fees at the State Fair. The im
pression ia prevalent that the admission fee
ranges from $1 SO to $2 50. There is no founda
tion for any such rumors. For the information
of nil, we reproduce the following entries aud
terms, und vouch for their correctness :

eight years.

FEARFUL CASUALTY.
One Person Slightly Injured and Two Others
Horribly Mangled by the Premature.
Discharge of a Cannon.
A frightful calamity, on Friday or last week,
about 11 o'clock, east a gloom npon onr com
munity. In tiring ihe cannon, after the Repub
licans had raised their pole and run up their
flag, a prematura discharge took place, by
which one person was sliehtlr injured and two
others terribly mangled. After thecartridge of
powarr naa ooen sent to its place in the Run, a
wisp of hay was rolled into a ball and after
being sraked in water, was rammed to its
place, but before there was time to withdraw
the ramrod, the load was discharged, .nd the
two rammers Sami'RL Farrkr, Jr., and rri
rrick lloi.i.iota sent reeling to the ground,
mangled, hnined, bleeding and blackened wilh
powder. Their clothes w ere literally torn into
ahreds and the ramrod was splintered into a
thousand fragments.
Both arms of young Farrkr were lorn to
pieces below the elbows, presenting a ahapeless
muss of flesh and blood. His fare was also
severely lacerated, o that It was at first sop
posed that both eyes were gone, but such, we
are pleased to say, ia not the ease. He raised
himself In a sitting posture, and cried earnest I r
for " water I" " water I " He nexi exclaiiifd,
"Well, boys, my hands sr gone 1" He then
sank into a state of unconsciousness, and was
removed at once to the olnce ol Dr. J. H. Knms
frank, where his injuries were at once at
lendrn to.
The right arm of FRRnitRiCR Hoi.i.ioita, was
slivered aim t into shivds from the shoulder
down, and broken in threo places. His lower
lip was terribly cut and his tongue split; his
breast and body were also sjrerely burned, and
the flesh pi- reed with a crest number of splin
ters from the ramrod. Strange to sav, he arose
Irom the ground immediately, and walked, nn
aaU(ed, some twenty ro Is or more, wheu he
was conveyed lo his residence on a wagon.

! the afternoon, ihree surgeons arrived from
Toledo, and the arms of young Fahhkh were
boih amputated above the elbow, and the rirht
arm of Mr. Holliorr amputated at the shoulder.
At first it n a tin light that it was not possi
ble to save ihe lifoof either, but wearegratitied
to state thst both are now in a fair way hi recover,
aa ther are improving as rapidly as can be ex
pected under the circomstanci-s.
Both an moral, upright and industrious young
men, respected and beloved by all who kueiv
them, and Ihe entire community sympathizes
wi'b them snd their iiumedia e Irieuds in their
deplorable misfortune.
