To ii Lnrgo Audience mi Snturilny Last. The Republican Senatorial rally at Fott Meigs last Saturday was a great meeting. Owing to the fact that tho weather was so threatening all tho morning, and the rain of the forenoon, many people remained at homo who would have otherwise attended tbo meeting, but notwithstanding tho weather, largo crowds came to hear the speeches and become acquainted' with the Senatorial candidates. The speeches were postponed until afternoon when Chairman Hunter called tho meeting to order and intro duced Hon. C. P. Grlflln as chairman. Mr. Griffln mado a brief speech in which he scouted the idea chat he could possibly refuse to support any or all of the Republican ticket. His Re publicanism was not of the sort that would permit him to sulk or fail to do his duty because he had suffered defeat. But on the contrary he was at his post of duty and referred with much earn estness to the fact that it was a great pleasure to be present and assist in tho meeting. His remarks were loudly applauded and his friends were moro proud of him than ever, while his po litical enemies were compelled to ac knowledge his ability and power. He introduced Hon. Asa W. Jones, Republican candidate for lieutenant governor, who made one of the best speeches of the campaign. His audi ence listened attentively to his power ful speech. The arriyal of ex-Gov. Foraker es corted by the Lincoln club and Leon's band was tho signal for great applause, and at tho conclusion of Jones' speech chairman Griffin introduced the gal lant soldier-statesman who entertained his audience with an able speech full of convincing arguments which were ap plauded and appreciated by the large audience. It was a great day for old Fort Meigs and the Republicans of this Senatorial district. Just prior to tho introduction of Gov. Foraker. Hon. John Hankey, Hon. John Vogt and Hon. T. J. Harbaugh were introduced to tho audience. Dr. Price's Cream Baking Powder World's Fair Hlchest Medal and Diploma. WATERVILLE. Heartily Kndono the l'lnn nnd Ilegret tlte Already Lone Delay Among tho many articles published by tho newspaper representatives who visited Fort Meigs recently, the follow ing sketch taken from the Toledo Sun day Journal, although somewhat long, is worthy of re-publlcatlon, from the fact that it goes a great ways to ward rellectlng tho charge made by a few pseudo editors, who through a spir it of narrow mindedness and jealousy, attempted to convey tho idea that the meeting of editors was only for tho purposo of advertising Toledo. I am sure the generous public of To ledo will heartily agree with tho Press Club in Its attempt last week to bring closer together tho editors of the three states which are largely tributary to Toledo. Tho mooting of tho editors of Ohio, Indiana and Michigan, which, was held here Monday last is certain to inure to the benefit of this city, as well as to make the fraternal feeling among the newspaper men more general. But over and abovo what may happen to tho men engaged In newspaper work, and quite boyond what is to bo gained for Toledo, is tho paramount matter of cre ating a Fenoral and widespread inter- ' est in tho operation of a National Parle i on tbo site of Fort Meigs. It is a shamo , that we of Toledo sit so supinely by while thero lies just on tho river abovo us a spot which Is so historically re nowned. ' Ou the banks ot the Maumee, directly opposite Maumee, and but a short dis tance above Perrysburg, is the site of Fort Meigs. Here, less than one hun dred yoars ago, rested really the dom ination of the Northwest Territory, out of which wo haye since carved many an empire and but for which, and tho deeds of the gallant men whose bodies now smolder unmarked and without! sign of recognition, this great west, now so important a part of tbiB great nation, would have doubtless remained under foreign domination. Fifteen hun dred unmarked graves are now wait ing recognition ou tho hither banks of tho quiet river which runs by our doors. Over ttiese graves cattle grazo, the summer winds toss the grass and the heroes lie thus without the slight est recognition on our part of their val llaut deeds, This ia. monstrous, and most unpurtiotic. On the night of Ft. Meigs there should be carved marbla and bronze; the hillsides should bo dot ted with marks of where bravo men died; a grateful nation should take in charge tho resting place of these patri ots and make lasting illustrations of how a republic can be grateful, and tho peo ple of a free land remembor thoso who died that all might bo five. In other lands, where Icings. ami nobles suck tbo life blood of a patient people; whore standing armies constantly menace tho working man, and tax heavily every ef fort of honest toll, great monuments tower, and stately elllgies show whore rest tho bodies ef men who havo uchioyed renown. In Berlin, in Paris, in London these mementoes, abound and those who havo writ their names largo on tho pages of history hayo rec ognition.
