The worst roads to be found along the route are those of Wood and Sandusky counties, and plain ly demonstrates that Ohio has the most idiotic road laws, or, that Ohio County Commissioners have the least sense in the administra tion of those laws. When is an "improved" road not a road? The answer is after it has been neglected until it has become rutted and full of holes and after passing Le Moyne there is very little of the Fremont pike that can boast of the name of "good" road. Pennsylvania and New York btatcs can give Ohio many ex amples of road building and maintenance that inignt prove profitable. The Wood county automobile club can demonstrate its worth and usefulness by asking the county commissioners to require all road and bridge contractors to provide suitable and safe detours around sections of road or bridges that are being improved. This is a feature of the work in York state that finds approval by all classes of people who must use the roads Such conditions are notably lacking in Ohio. After leaving Ohio I found every mile of the route indicated by .sign posts, and in case of im provements or breaks in the road "De-Tour signs giving complete directions are posted at proper places. We arrived at Erie, Pa., the day after the flood which destroyed about 50 lives and nearly five mil lions of property. The city wa just recovering from the effect or the first staggering blow. There is the same "Reason Why" to be told concerning this great tragedy that is so often the cause of similar occurrences, and is directly traceable to the greei and shortsightedness of the own ers of property abutting on Mill Creole, a small, stream passing through the city. Property own ers continued to narrow up t)ie stream until there was not suffi cient space for -the waters to pass and when the unusual amount of water suddenly deluged the city, the littlo stream, swollen to a mighty power, swept away im mense buildings and tore up heavy pavements, bridges and trees, and blotted out the lives of many people. All along the routo followed by the stream house owners were en gaged" in re-establishing their homes, slowly recovering from the shock. There were many pitiful and strange sights from that of a beautiful home that had been picked up by the water and jammed between two immense trees about two blocks away from its original location to that of a littlo girl who was seen searching among the rubbish in and, about her home and gathering up her dolls and their clothing which she Continued on Fourth Pago. Ten to one he is a reformer for rev enue only, who is trying to make things appear worse than they really are, in order to make a place for himself at the public pie count er, tie 11 get up an organization to fight something that gives plea sure to others whether its dancing, such as the young folks enjoy, or playing cards, which maybe some of the matrons like, or billiards, or baseball, especially on Sunday, or uny other enjoyment in which nor mal, healthy human beings indulge. The first thing such a man does is to go to the capitol to prevent the passage of a bill by which people will get some enjoyment. He will try to have things prohibited. He is always trying to prevent some thing. Did you ever see this kind of. reformer trying to have a bill passed that would enable people to enjoy life? Never! His sole idea is to force through the legislature or the city council a blue law to make other people live according to his ideas, or to prevent the pas sage of laws introduced by other people who may want to live differ ently. The world is sad enough without losing our pleasures, There is no place in these red-blooded days for blue laws. The pasty faced complexion has gone out of style and the ruddy glow of health tells that wo arc living the right way. The healthy man and woman, who loves life and the good things ho can get from it, is a better cit izen by far than the dyspeptic and selfish reformer who is reforming for a living or to make other people as miserable as himself. The rain stayed away Sunday afternoon and Perrysburg defeat ed "their hoodoo," the Clark's Semi-Pros, in an eleven inning game by the score of 4 to 3. It should .have been a shutout hut six errors by T'erryshuVg were re sponsible for their 3 scores. The fielding was clean but all errors were made on wild throws. The game was fast and exciting and kept the fans on edge at all times. Some real and some poor base ball was '-played. Both teams scored in the first inning. The visitors secured theirs when Gaffney reached first on an error and went to third on wild throws by Mayo and Canode and Scored on a scratch hit by Murphy. Perryshurg secured their run when C. Reis was allowed a walk, Hofi'master sacrificed and G. Reis scored when P. Reis secured an in field hit. rerrysmirg s second run was made in the fifth inning when Kopp doubled and scored on Ca node 's Texas leaguer. Jxopp scorcu again in tne sev enth, lie was hit by a pitched ball and reached second on Engle's sacrifice, and scored when Canode connected with the sphere for 'two bases. The Clarks tied the score in the eighth when LeLeur reached first on an error. Simon hit to right field. Harper held the ball too long and misjudged the play and then threw wild to first. F. Reis recovered the ball and threw wild to home, allowing LeLeur to score and Simon to reach third, from where he scored, tieing the score, when Kramp singled. This ended the scoring of the Clarks. The good pitching of Engle and a fast double play in the tenth in ning took the life out of the vis itors and they could do nothing in the eleventh. P'erryshurg came out 'in their half and scored the winning run with two men out and a man on second and fir.st when Engle sent a lino drive to right-field scoring llonner and winning his own game.
