Oen. Debrell. of Tenness-c, said: We re
gard it ns a direct attack upon us, the
Tennessee Democrats in the house. It is :i
piece of impertinence on the part of Postmaster-!
Jeneral Key to attempt to dictate
to our friends in Tennessee. It is mi insult
and an outrage to us. It is simply advis
ing the people of our states to send Repub
licans in our places. Hut I expected some
thing of this kind. It was reported that
Mr. Key was invited to leave the cabinet,
and I predicted he would do something of
this kind. In my opinion that letter was
prepared for Mr. Key, and In-was to sign
it or leave the cabinet. He has killed
himself with his party, and is now working
with the balance of the administration for
the Republicans. When he says we favor
revolutions, he tells what is not true, and
In- knows it.

Sad Termination of a Pleaslmf Event
in Central Park.
Nkw Youk, May 30. The. following is
a correct account of the accident yesterday
to Mr. Win. Cullen Hrvanl: The exercises
in Central park yesterday afternoon, on tlm
occasion of the unveiling of the bust of
Mazzini. occupied between one and two
hours, nt that part of the day when the
least air was stirring and the sun gave its
most intense heat. During a good deal of
that time Mr. Uryant was in his place in
the speakers' stand, with his head uncover
ed, sutTcring like many n younger man in
the assembly from the exposure, though
making no complaint.
At the close of the open air exercises. In1
was invited by (ten. James G. Wilson to
his house in East Seventy-fourth street, to
rest after the exertions of the afternoon and

seemed to have lost consciousness, and in
the act of raising one foot to enter the ves

house, where he was laid on a sofa, a dis
patch being sent to his family physician.
As soon as it was thought prudent lie
was removed in a carriage to his own house,

his physician, came as quickly as possible,
made an examination, and after hearing an
account of the accident, expressed great
suprisi; at the absence of any bruise or cut
on the patient's head. He was of the opin
ion that Mr. Bryant's swoon was of the
kind known to the medical profession as
syncope, caused by a diminution or inter
ruption of the motion of the heart and of
respiration, accompanied with a suspension
of the action of the brain ami a temporary
loss of sensation, volition and other fac
ulties. It is thought that a more severe injury
than that which actually befell him was
averted, possibly, by the thickness and soft
ness of his felt hat, which saved his head
from much of the force of the blow.
Dr. Carnochan was called into consulta
tion by Dr. Grnv on the surgical aspects
of the case, and their joint conclusion was
that no serious harm to the brain is to lie
feared, though what other internal dis
orders may have been caused by the fa'l
