Line, is coming from New Orleans with the

Thn hull of the Great Republic will be
pulled out of the water by the Mound

barge, to b t used by the Mound City Ice
Company, of St. Louis.
The John A. Scudder, arrived from
New Orleans yesterday, was to have fol
lowed the Howard south, but owing to a
rush of business at St. Louis she went on
through. She will take her place ic the
Cairo and New Orleans line on her return.
Her cargo on the present up trip is all for
St. Loui. Shu had 20 round trip passen

rather statiug a fact than expessing an
opinion to say that the choice of Mr. John
A. Logan has been ngreed npon to such
an extent thnt opposition to him would
be bnth unwise and unavailing. Iletook
an active and exceedingly honorable part
in the campaign; the tcpublican victory
in the state is due to him more than to
any other oue man. He is the kind of a man
for whom there is pressing need ut this
time a bold, aggressive leader. To re
place him in the senate just now would
