The Market.
Cairo. Monday Evening,
June 9, lb79. (
The hot wtnthcr seems to have a tie-
pressfcg effect on burintts, and there is
very little doing in any of the leading
branches. This is owing in part to a Jack
of supplies to fill orders, in some, and a
ack of buyers in others. A sharp storm of
thunder aiiil lightning visited this locality
last night, and light, fleecy clouds have
been driving across the sky all day to-day
&igns of another thunder storm.
FLOUR The market rules weaker and
prices are quoted 10 to 15 cents off. Deal-
rs are expecting first arrivals of new flour
within a week or two.
HAY The market is easier. Low
grades are over stocked and hard to sell.
CORN Steady and firm. Receipts are
more liberal and the demand fair.
OATS None coming in. The demand
is also very light.
MEAL Scarce and firm. City meal is
in steady demand at quotations. No re
ceipts of country.
BRAN Unchanged.
BUTTER A large stock is on the mar
ket that is g"tting old and cannot be
worked off. Choicest receipts of fresh is
dull and common is not wanted at anv
price.
EGGS Receipts are only moderate and
the demand coed.
POULTRY Good s-pring chickens are
scarce and in gaU demand. Old chickens
are plenty and dull.
BERRIES All kinds are scarce and re
ceipts find ready sale.
POTATOES Choice are scarce and in
good demand.
TOBACCO Continues to arrive freely
and prices are fully up to quotations. Man
ufacturing and shipping qualiti s are in de
mand. Several new buyers are in the mar
ket and are taking all that is offering.

MISCELLANEOUS.
Captain Tom. Shields leaves for St. Louis
to-day to attend the races .... Pilot Angely
McBride, who has been standing a watch
at ths wheel of the Iron Mountain for the
past six months, is at home again waiting

is her commander The Kountz line an
nounces the E. O. Stanard to leave St.
Louis for New Orleans on next Friday. It
is probable,, now, that Col. Trice, of tho
Memphis Avalanche, will let our friend
Walt and his Kountz line advertisement
have a rest . . . .Says the Memphis Appeal :
rather sarcastically : "Durff says the Caire
Argus (wher's that paper printed?) contains
excoriations by Walt, on the Appeal's Bnag
boat criticisms. Wc have not been honored
with an exchange by that compilation of
Egyptian hieroglyphics, therefore wo aro
not prepared to acknowledge defeat, or
"meet Bombastcs face to face." In all wc
have said about the snagboat service we
feel a perfect repose of conscience- in tho
fact that the Appeal has but reflected the
opinions of the steamboat fraternity in gen
era!,andof prominent owners in particular. .
Gilniore and tow arrived from St. Louis
during tho morning, and will leave for
New Orleans to-iluy. 8ho Hilda to her

. . . .Well, is there none of our people wl"

Get ready and go -with her. It costs but
the paltry sum of ten dollars for tho round

your life. Captain Bob Wise is sure to
make it so, . . .The Robert Mitchell arrived
on unday, night. She added largely to her
cargo here, and left for New Orleans yester
day morning with a heavy load. . . .Another
of the sunken freight cars at East Cairo
was picked up and out ot the water by the
wrecker Charlie Hill, on Sunday,
and a second one, almoBt landed
when a chain on one of the derricks broke,
leaving one end of the car back into the
water. Captain Hill expected to have the
work completed last evening. . . .The Cham
pion hai the contract to carry the Robin

as Padueah, making three stands with them
at Mound City, Metropolis and Padueah.
This steamer is getting about all of the
outside business she can do.... The

Champion gives a grand excursion trip from
