RIVER WEATI1ER BUSTS ESS.
There was a little more activity about
the wharf yesterday. The local packets
brouit unusually large cargoes, and the
Howard adding over 1000 tons for the
south.
The weather continues intensely hot.
The rivers are still declining.

The Mollie Moore of the Kounte line
passed up for St. Louis Thursday niyht.
..The John A. Scudder passed up
from New Orleans for St. Louis yesterday
morning Capt. Ntw'and arrived from
Little Rock yesterday. He goes to Mound
City to-ay, with his crew, to take the Ka
tie Hooper to Cincinnati The Silver
Cloud came in from Evansville Thursday
night with about 25 tons miscellaneous
freight The James Howard arrived
from St. Louis early yesterday morning,
with 1600 toes, to which she made addi
tions hero of over 1000 tons, and
departed for New Orleans last
evening The Champion came in
from Paducah with her usual promptness.

At noon, Captain James O'Neil, com
mander of the James Howard, received the
following from Captain Ad. Storm, agent of
the Anchor Line, at Memphis:

Master 6teamer James Howard, Cairo, Ills:
New Orleans has quarantined against
Memphis, so you cannot load here. Scare
all over. Ad. Storm.
At four o'clock last evening the dispatch
below camo to Major J. II. Smith, but that
gentleman having left ou he three o'clock
South bound train for Memphis, it was re
ceived by Capt. Halliday. J. II. Edmonds,
whose Bame is subscribed to tho telegram,
is a member of the Howard Association of
Memphis :
