THE EQUITABLE LIFE ASSURANCE SOCIETY OF THE UNITED STATES MAKES THE FOLLOWING ANNOUNCE MENT TO THE PUBLIC: The dissatisfiction which prevails throughout the community with regard to onerous conditions contained in life assur ance contracts and the judicial decisions based thereon, together with the public m- lorscment of the liberal usages of this So ciety, as shown by its largely increased business, has led the management seriously to consider whether the contract could not o simplified and certain conditions er?scd therefrom which have been the subject of much criticism and misconception. After a careful examination of the ex perience of sonic of tho best companies in Great Britain, who have shown a greater liberality than has been customary in this country, this society feels justified m adopt ing a form of contract in which the follow ing important concessions are made to pol icy holders throughout tho United States: 1. Policies will be mado incontestable after thrco years from their date. Each ordinary policy will provide for a definatc surrender-value in paid-up assur mice, in case tho policy is forfeited after three years from its date. o Each Tontino policy will contain a definite surrender-value in cash, m case of withdrawal at tho end of tho tontine period. 4. Tho contract will bo concisely and clearly expressed, containing only such provisions ns aro necessary to protect tho policyholder. B. Tho above concessions will hereafter inuro to tho benefit of all policies nlretuly issued and in forco, nfter threo years from their dates respectively.
