The Paducah News sayg that the owners
of the Fisk are negotiating for a magnifi
cent packet for the Paducah and Cairo
trade. The boat will be built new, from
the bottom planks to the tops of the chim
neys. She will be fast, roomy and comfort
able, with all the late improvements in ma
chinery, construction and conveniences.
The City ot Alton, Capt. Bixby, arrived at
St. Louis yesterday with barges South and
Missouri No. 2, 00 round-trip passengers,
208 bbls. syrup and molasses, 5.1 do currants,
40 do oranges, 5 dp paint, 1T8 do rice, 43
do merchandise, 4 do meal, 53 do flour, 120
do sulphur, 50 do bar stores, 5 do and 5
casks vinegar, 500 bales batting, 190 do
moss, 30 do gi-iiKs, 2,444 boxes and cases
merchandise, 42 sacks wool, 3,5 bundles
iron, 25 sucks pepper, 283 do coffee, 25 do
nuts, 730 pkgs. of assorted goods, and will
leave for New Orleans again to-day,

before yesterday at 4 p. in., in
crossing from Randolph Point to
Island 40, in twelve fuet of water; mul
sank at corner of Island, twenty miles

on outside on deck, and 4 feet from tiro
doors. Jas. Leftridge, Master. Tho boat
was a stcrnwheeler, built at Pittsburg, in
1871, for W. J. Kountz, had a capacity of
550 tons and cost about $20,000. She was
204 feet long, 34 feet beam, und 48' feet
deep. She hod 2 boilers, 4 cylinders, 10
and 23 inches in diameter, 4' feet stroke.
At first the Eckcrt was ordered to go to
her, but afterward it was decided to send a
pump to her on another boat.

A heavy rain, the heaviest ot the season,
set in early this morning and has continued
without intermission tp to the present writ
ing. Business outside consequently, was
entirely at a stand till for the day, and our
reports of transactions ure rather meager.
Prices in nearly all Etaple articles are well
sustained and in sSnic branches such as
wheat, Hour and oats, are firm und higher
than at our last issue.
FLOUIi Our reports show an advanco
in prices, while the market is firm and stock
HAY Receipts are liberal, and tho de
mand for choice is fair. Low grades arc
neglected. CORN There is no old corn on the
market. Ear coin of the new crop is sell
ing from wagons at 23 to :J0 cents, accord
in to condition.
OATS Firm and advancing. Price
closed to-day at 30 cents for choice in bulk.
MEAL Not muc h doiEg. Stocks light
and prices firm.
BRAN Finn and unchanged.
BUTTER Choice is scarce and in g od
demand. Common is- overstockeed and
EGGS Plenty and dull; but should the
weather turn cold after tire prevailing rain
is over the market will improve.
CHICKENS The demand continues
good, and all receipts find readv sale.
APPLES Common varieties are over
stocked, and very dull. Choice are in fair
demand at quotations.
