Kansas ClTY, Feb. 20.-Yesterday the
laborers excavating on the site for the
Fowler's packing-house in Kansas City,
Kansas, struck for 1 00 per day. They
were gcttiug 1 23. The teamsters also
struck for per day. They were getting
2 CO. To-duy the men engaged in the
strike returned to work at $1 23. The re
turn to work caused considerable agita
tion among laborers here, and a row
ensued between those in favor and those
opposed to going to work. Policemen
uiade several arrests of persons disturbing
the peace. John Davy, one of the men ar
rested, broke away from the policeman,
when the latter drew a revolver and shot
Davy in the leg. making an ugly wound.
One or two others tn the confusion broke
away from the ollicers and escaped acioss
the line into Missouri.

A ROMANTIC LIFE.
A young ludy with a remarkable history
passed (iin.ugh Ojiincy, 111,, on the 20th
inst. Her name is Annie Jackson, and lu-r
home to which she was en route is near the
village of Hieris, Maveiic county, Texas, on
the .Mexican border. In May. 1S77, she
was gaged, bound imd abdured from her
home by two Americans, carried over into
Mexico, four hundred miles, taken in
charge of by the Mexican. Col. Jean
Biptiste San Miguel, military com
mander in the eastern district
of Chihuahua, who wanted to marry her
nolens volens. Escaping by stealth, she
managed, with the aid of friendly Indians,
to make he way to the gulf coast, thente
to Havana on a brig, where she applied to
the Ameriead consul for assistance. With
help, Annie reached Charleston, 8. C,, and
from there went to Richmond, Va., whore
a wealthy tobacconist interested himself in
her case, and is assisting her to reach her
Texas home. Her family long ago gave
her up for dead.
