Olive Baptist Church, which was postponed because of un'avor able weather, was held Thursday and Friday nights and Sunday. Miss Alice Morris and the recrea tion group had charge of Thursday night and rendered a very interest ing program. Brother Charles Hill made brief remarks. Rev. H. A. Riddle preached. Rev. C. H. Dickson preached Fri day night. Remarks Brother Wm Ailes, address Miss Alice Morris. The members sent a big storm to Rev. A. A. Thompson’s home. The Rev. J. L. Green delivered the Anniversary Sermon, Sunday morning which was enjoyed by all. The anniversary Text was: Matt. 16: 18. The Text to the Pastor: Acts 20:28 subject: The Church is built on the Rock and God’s minister has the keys. Visiting ministers were: Rev. C. H. Dixon, Rev. Daniel King, F ev. J. W. Quinn and Rev H. A. Riddle. Dinner was served after church. r j _ | The members and friends of VIt Olive Baptist Church presented their pastor, Rev. A. A. Thompson, an “appre ciation carriage’* which con tamed a variety of groceries The unique arrangement of the love tokens were display «ed in little Roland Jones's baby carriage The parade was led by Mrs. Lula West, Mrs. Easter Brown, Mrs Ada Pickens and Bro Geo Davis. Expressions of grati tude for the service of Rev. Thompson were related. Thoce taking an active part were: Mesdames P. M. Norman, Altie Crowe, Mattie Thompson, Ada Pickens, Laura Roundtree. Viola Green, Young, Minerva Washington, Alice Brooks, Phvllis Shaffer, Emma Mor ris, Cohn, Ollie Locket, Alice Delta-Wide Afro Meet To Be Held Sunday A spring festival, Del^-wide program and membership drive of the Afro American Sons and Daughters will be held Sunday af ternoon May 5, at 2:00 o’clock n the auditorium of Bo ivar Countv Training School. Olive The Sunday School of VIt Olive Baptist Church will render a Mother’s Day pro gram May 12 at 10 a m. A crown with carnations will he given to the booster who re ports the highest amount of offering. The pastor was very hap py and he thanks each one. t NEWS ABOUT TOWN By T. P. Felder The stork brought a tiny visitor to the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Brown Thursday April 25th, the Wilburt’s baby daughter Shirley Mae. Both parents and grand par ents are very happy over the event. Little Misses Debro Carter and Vera Anderson were popular visit ors in our city this week. They were accompanied from Chicago by Messrs. Ezelle Anderson and Hiliard Carter and Mesdames Thelma Powell, Ruth Crisp and Maxine Carter. This interesting group were guests of Mrs. Hattie Powell. We are glad to report that Mrs. Beulah Hills are greatly improved at this writing. Mrs. Missouri Connoway is able to sit up now. She was visited by her daughter Mrs. Maggie Matt hew of Memphis. Mr. Matthew and their children were with her. They spent Sunday and Monday in our city. Mayor B. A. Green and Sir Wm, Lee are among those who are out of town visiting the A. M. E. General Conference in Detroit, Michigan. Rev. H. W. Hennings and family are now domiciled in the W. D.» Anderson house in front of Mr. Riddles in Black’s addition. Master Herbert Hoover Woods is a b s e n t from Miss Felder’s school attending the General Con ference in Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Claude Smith and a party of his friends spent Sunday after noon in Mound Bayou. Mr. Smith is a nephew of Sir P. M. Smith. Mrs. Singletary, Mrs. Price, Miss Louvella Causey and Mr. Gant are all showing marked im provement from their illness. The Little Mission Group en joyed a May Day Festival in the form of a Peanut Hunt May first on T. O. C. K. playground. The music, games stunts and “Goober (Continued on back page) i
