Vlrs Teretha Brantley and her two children, Vernon and Mattie Cl>de came to visit Mrs Brantley’s father, Mr. John Brown Mrs. Brantley’s home is in Eupora, Miss. Mr Brown’s neice, Mrs. Florida Johnson also visited him. Miss Earlee Harris left for Vicksburg, Wednesday where she will attend school. The Gay Teeners Social Club will meet at Hilda Myers next Wednesday at 5 p. m. The club members find it a great enjoyment. Mrs. Costella Collins is still in the hospital trying to get built up enough for an opera Mrs. Lizzie Hutcherson is •on the sick list. All Gay Teeners get your weiners ready for the Hobo Hike and Weiner Roast which will be had September 24. A prize will be given to the Gay Teener wearing the most Hobo like costume. Remember that September 1 1 is my birthday. The annu al party is on, and I expect you to be there as usual. Dr. and Mrs. Oswald Smith of St. Louis, are visiting Dr. Smith’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. Mr. Ernest Cook of Toledo, Ohio spent last week end in Shelby I m sure his dear schr o! pals and friends were happy to s e him. It >s thought he was sort cf inspect* ng for a future wife. Miss Etta Lee Hank is spending her vacation in Chicago. We are hop ng her a swell time. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Fails made a business trip to Greenwood, Miss., on last week. I accompani ed them Of course it was a pleas ure trip to me. Thur day night was a big night at Cleveland at the Sunday School ccnvention. Our Sunday School canied a very nice program Miss Chiquita J. Felder was our pianist. Among those who were on pro gram were: Mrs. Mary Gregory and children, Mrs. Lela Washing ton, Miss Beulah Patton, Mr. Le roy McCray and Mildred Peace. I’m sure our pa9tor Rev. G. W. Thomas was proud. Mr. Sammuel Peace ha9 return ed from his trip to Florida, where he represented the 8 t a t e in the National N. F. A. Convention in the oratorcial contest. He lost the contest by 1 1-2 point difference. There wa9 a mistake in the typ ng of the manuscript. The trip was very pleasant though. He spent a night in Alabama State College and also Pensacola, Fla. He visited Bioloxi, Gulport and many other cities. He also waded in the Gulf of Mexico. Miss Chiquita Jane Felder again spent the week-end in Shelby. Hope she enjoyed it, Mr. Rommey L o w e is in the Aviation Squardon in Savannah, Ga. He says he has met a lot of schcol pals there Hope he likes it. Miss Dezzie Mae Murrel has taken a short Beauty Cultrist course in Indianola., Miss. Mr. F. W. Patton is now in i Holly8prings. He is expected back home sometime next month. Local News A’l of the Sunday Schools of he City joined in havirg on outing on Six Mile L ke Labor Day. An estimated c>owd of about 200 men, women and children attend ed. Many games were p a *d and don’t mention the eating. Every one left wishing for another Sun day School outing. Mr. Dav d Anderson of Chicago is here visiting his mother, Mrs. Carrie Anderson, and Miss Leola Jones. Privates Winston and Odis Glass of Camp Livington, La., were here spending the week end with relatives and f iends. Miss Viola G1 ssleft Sunday for Detroit, Mich, Mr. Pal Stringer. E. C. Purnell and Greenlee Preslev left Sunday for Southern Un versity at Scot landv lie, La. Prof A. R. Taylor of Daytona Beach, Florida was here visiting friends Saturday. Coach Porter and Abourhaw of Alcorn were in town to see some of the college going boys Saturday. Mrs. Carrie Mae Bowman was given a birthday dinner Sunday by her sister, Mrs. Leola Jones Sig gers and her mother in-’aw, Mrs. Mattie Bowman. Among those present were: Messrs. David An derson, Will Hunter, Henry King, C. Preston Holmes, Mesdames Pearl Bowman and Ollie Anderson. It was reported very enjoyable. Mr. Ike Heron stopped by this week to see his daughter, Miss Dorothy Heron. He was enroute home from Redwood, Miss. Miss Jonnie Mae Jefferson and daughter Dollie Mae left for Hollandale Saturday. Miss Mattie Shaffer was in town visiting relatives Sunday. Mrs. Augusta Johnson is back in t o w n afteJ a short s t a y in Moorhead. Mr. Jack Butler of the Printing Office has returned to school and Tuskeege Institute. Mrs. Helen Mormon of Mem. phis returned home Wednesday after visiting Mrs. Charlie Harvey,
