Tho Silver licit wishes to bo credited with not having printed a story on tho ".Lost Peg Leg Mine" this year. Tho El Paso Herald sees in Arizona" a future Kepublican stronghold. No ono has ever successfully explained dreams. HORN To Mr. nud Mrs. Alfonso of Madrid, Spain, on tho 10th inst., a son. Mother and son are reported to be doing nicclv. Judging from tho aggressivo way in which Mexico called for General Lima's extradition, that gentleman must belong ,to the frijole family. John W. Gates thinks Roosevelt will ibe renominated and re-elected presidont -but as yet he has not backed up his "judgment with a million. Tho Globe camp continues to attract attontion, says tho Houghton Mining Gaaette. Now one of the big copper brokorago firms has a representative ,making a careful investigation of the situation. Tho El Paso chief of police says that just six men not officers are given the jiight to carry guns in that city. Ho would be doing a great favor to the public if he would give out the names of tho favored, so that tho innocent by stander would know whom to dodge. In Phoenix the voters have decided almost unanimously to purchase the lo cal water plant. We wonder when tho city council of Globe will got up enough nerve to issue an ultimatum or two to tko company which is supposed to sup ply Globe with wntor for domestic pur poses and fire protection. THE COUNTY HOSPITAL It has been the custom for Gila coun ty grand juries in their final reports to take a fall out of tho presentGila oounty hospital ( ?) and the grand jury which adjourned yesterday was no ex ception to tho rule. No one disputes the fact that it is the inalienable right of a grand jury to criticize the official acts of county officers and find fault with county institutions, but theso criti cisms and fault findings usually servo to end the incident, so there is no harm done and, in few cases, any good. As far as tho miscrablo shack which is mistakenly called the county hospital is concerned, it would be rank foolish ness to improve it in any manner at this time. Tho grand jury said it was as clean as it could be made, and thnt is about all that can be expected. The supervisors have already purchased a lot, or block", in East Globe for a hos pital site- and as soon as title to tho present site is quieted so that it can bo sold, the county board will award a , contract for the erection of a hospital. It is to bo hoped that thcro will bo no more delay than is necessary in getting the building started and completed. As ,to the grand jury's recommendation to furnish tho present hospital with now 'bedding, etc., it would bo far better to .bum down tho shack and all its con ' tents, if Homo suitable placo could be secured for a temporary hospital. THE RIGHTS OF WOMEN Addressing a recent meeting of tjic Daughters of Ohio, Mrs. DoRivera ar gued for an enlargement of tho rights of women. Among other things, she said: "Now, tho way that overy girl is brought up nowadays is to beliovo that tho ono thing in life for her is to be married. Tho cry of tho times is that tho girls must not go out into tho world, but go back to their natural sphere tho home. "But what I would like to ask is how tho girl is going to do this if sho doesn't have a chance to make tho op portunity. If oho tries to mnko an op- oprtumty sho h considered unworthy, unmnidcnly and no good. If a girl in America is brought up to believe that hIio must marry, then sho ought to have the opportunity to get a husband. It is like teaching a boy a trado and then not letting him practice it. A girl should not bo educated that way." As far as wo aro awaro thcro is no lav. that prevents any woman from asking any man to marry her. Sho is ns freo as tho birds of tho air to pro pose whenover sho pleases, nr.d a3 often as sho plqase.s. It is true that sho doc3 not pop tho question very often. Social (H VSSSSSilEi UmoWwf5 tSMS Conventions seem, to net as a barrlor. But if a woman really loves a ninn nud has reason to believe tho man loves hor, it is up to her to broach tho question and find out for sure at tho earliest possiblo moment. But, coino to think about it, thoro does seem something radically wrong in proposals coming from tho gentler sox. Man hnnkors most nftor what is hardest to attain. Ho will tun nftor a girl who eludes him until ho has lost his breath, passing on his wav other girls who might mako him a wiiole lot' happier. And tho elusive girl, if sho wants tho man, usually lets him cutch up with hor at just the psychological moment. Mrs. DoRivera thinks every girl ought to have an opportunity to get a husband. Bless hor heart, practically overy girl does have an opportunity. Some bf them have n great many op portunities and turn them all down. It is indeed difficult for us to beliovo that mo ro girls would find husbands if pro posals on -their part becamo goncrnl. .Girls do not mnvry men merely becauso men ask them to marry. Thoro is in this country, thank goodness, n very goncral entortninment of tho old-fashioned notion that lovo should precede marriage. It woro better for tho woman to remain single all hor life than to marry n man sho does not love. And it is not true that only married women aro of scrvico to tho world. Think over your list of acquaintances and seo if you cannot find thoro an old woman whoso missions seems to bo to scatter sunshine, to bo helpful, to love and bo loved! Of course you can find her thorc. All of us know her. We know her in social life and wo know her in business and professional life, and aho thoroughly deserves the warm place sho has in our hearts.
