Now that fashion's decree calls for "curvcless women," thero may bo less naturo faking dono by tho fair sox for a while. However, tho Chorokeo Indian who is booked for tho United States son-atp- from Oklahoma is a millionaire. So perhaps ho Ml do. It is a trillo difficult for the nvorago man to understand how tho prdposed investigation of tho eoflin trust is going to affect tho cost of living. "I am a woman as well as a singer," says Calve. "The woman is not for tho public. I shall marry whom I caro to. That is for mo to decide." Bravo! It ,is not believed that Mr. Taf t will find it very hard to overcome tho desire to mail a fow picture- post cards to Son ator Fornker while he is making his tour around tho globe. Although Senator Tillman has been lecturing all summer, it is more than likely that he will bo in tho mood to lecture tho senate as soon as it con venes in Dccembor. ''.Baseball playing is demoralizing," says a Milwaukee. Y. M. C. A. leader. The kind the Globo team put up at Can anca lias certainly demoralized the hopes of tho rooters. JU The reported heavy losses of Mr. Jogcr3 in a new railroad undertaking recall tho familiar complaint of tho woman who conducted tho fruit stand. What she made on the peanuts she fre quently lost on the bananas. A Richmond express wagon driver named Bert Wildboro, who inherited $5,000,000, immediately began to write his name "Robert Newton Wildborc." After a while his riches may make of him another kind of a bore. "I approvo of President Roosevelt and all of his policies," says Senator Depew. That's what Mr. Roosevelt gets for adopting a policy of silenco on tho question of the resignation of New York's senators. Tom Johnson's opponent for tho may oralty having been described as a "tall, . dark man," tho New York Herald won ders if ho is "coming with a bundle." Undoubtedly. With a bundle of speeches containing words, words, words. 'Rage Two UNlON'0kABEL Tho Birmingham Age-Herald claims ' i , . .to have discovprcd that an Ohio man (jnn smoke and -brcatho .'through' his left '' - -ear, thus leaving his mouth frco to talk j olitics. And when his mouth gots tired ho can probably talk with his fingers. There aro all kinds of big game .down in tho Louisiana cano brakes, excepting bloated millionaires, rebatcrs and bad corporations. Bears, deer and bobcats, not to mention lizards, scorpions, ' snakes and muskrats, will do for a chango in presidential gunning. THE IDEAL PLAY At tho invitation of tho New York Times, severnl leading nctors and tho atrical managers have courageously un dertaken to answer tho question, "What is tho ideal play!" Some of tho participants in tho sym posium realized that no answer was possiblo. Mary Mannering, for exam ple, cannot "concoivo of thero boing an ideal piny," and Carlotta Nillson and George Broadhurst aro as ono in holding that it has not been written. Miss Nillson goes further; sho docs not think that it can bo written. And in ' that tho actress shows a keen apprecia tion of tho meaning of tho question sho was asked to answer, for, after all, an ideal would ccaso to bo an ideal if it wore realized. No such considerations troublo Rob or,t Edeson, who takes tho parish-pump viow that tho ideal play must bo "a strictly American play by an American playwright upon American subjects and with American characters." What a happy mental condition Mr. Edeson must possess, for thoro aro scores of plays which meet his narrow conditions. Ab migiit bo oKpectcd, Dnniol Frohmnn approaches tho subject from a moro philosophical standpoint. Ho holds that tho "ideal play Bhould deal with idoal motives, moro especially with tho one universal aspiration of human lifo, that of lovo which lends to marriage.". To point his moral, Mr. Frohman cites "Ilomeo and Juliet" as the play which moots his definition, and it is a sig nificant commentary on his cholco that that play never fails of appeal to tho cultivated and tho less cultivated play goer alike. ' But tho discussion, although interest ing from many aspects, cannot issuo as a definito result. As the various con tributors insist, tho question resolves itself into tho point of viow. Tliore nro no rules nvailablo whoroby an ab solute standard can bo sot up. The ideal in tho drama, as in other matters, is but relative, after all. AMUSEMENTS Dreamland's Opening Attraction West's Minstrels, coming to Dream land October 2 and 3, will bo tho open ing attraction of this popular place of amusoment. Of tho minstrels the Peoria Cvoning Journal says: West's minstrels, with perhaps tho best singing chorus in tho history of tho organization, royally entertained a large audionco nt tho Majestic last o veil ing. It was opening night for the sea son and while minstrels arc seldom used for such an occasion, yet, it can readily bo seen that no error wns made. West's Minstrels, while not claiming to bo tho largest on earth, are in many ways tho superior of tho many similar organiza tions. This is truo in tho ability of tho artists employed, if not in tho num ber employed. This can bo readily un derstood when mention is mado of such excellent comedians ris Cieorgo Van and Billy Graham and with tho inimitable interlocutors as Stanford Bicaby and Lloyd Balliet. Tho olio this season is very good, tho closing sketch, "My Old Kentucky Home," making possiblo ono of tho prettiest scones minstrelsy over produced. Tho man in white, Major tion, but his work with tho "devil stick" is not only marvelous, but in it ho is giving tho world an entirely now feature. It is, however, with tho singing solos, ducts, quartet and chorus in tho first part that is tho real feature of features, and which alone is worth moro than the prices asked. The Columbia Opera Company The mere announcement that the Col umbia Opera company will bo seen in Globo in tho near future will bo re ceived with much satisfatcion by tho music-loving citizens of Globe. Tho management has secured this excellent company for a return engagement of four nights comemncing Saturday, Oc tober 5. The cast of the Columbia Comic Opera company is practically tho samo as was seen here during their pre vious engagements. Among tho cast of tho principals of this popular organi zation will bo found Miss Carlotta Gil man, prima donna; Mr. Charles N. Holmes, leading tenor; Messrs. Ben Lodge and Jnck Martin, two comedians of recognized comic opera ability in charge of tho comedy roles, with a pow erful chorus of pretty girls elegantly costumed. The operas presented by the Colum bia Comic Opera company aro of tho samo high standard that characterized their former appcaranco in this city. Tho specialties presented by tho Colum bia Comic Opera company artists en gaged especially for this part of tho en tertainment never nil to receive the hearty indorsement of tho patrons. THEY DISCOVERED RICH MINERAL IN OLD MINE Specimen Weighing Nearly Twcnty-fivo Pounds Is Valued at $785 Salted a Well Emil Holdcn Jind Henry Cowcll of Wickenburg were yesterday exhibiting a chunk of silver and gold matte which had been smelted down from ore ob tained from the Rawhido mine iu the Bill Williams Fork, four miles from tho Montana & Arizona mine, says the Ari zon Republican. The mine is now called the Northern Light. The silver sped weighed 24 pounds and was valued at $785. It contained besides silver, several ounces of gold. The mine is about sixty years old ;ind was once operated by Mexicans who used to coin silver and had three small smelters on tho property iu an enrly day. The ore runs about $S0 in copper and gold and silver. There aro thrco groups of claims incorporated, eight in the North em Light, Jwclvo in tho Pcralto and seven in the Rawhido group. Mr. Hol dcn says that the Black Diamond mine will start to work about tho first of tho month. Mining business has been quiet during the summer, but is picking up with tho approach of cooler weather. To worship in common was the mo tive thai brought between four and five hundred of them together at Gila Cross ing, tho occasion being a joint commun ion service, arranged by Rev. Richards, A'lio is missionary among the Indians of this part of Arizona. Such an unusual thing is it for two tribes of Arizona Indians to get to gether for any other purpose than hurl ing arrows at each other, that all of tho whites who spoke at tho religious services during tho morning referred to it. Among tho spenkers wero James Crcighton, Dr. II. A. Hughes, Professor George Blount and Indian Agent Gill. Each of them called attention to tho bringing togothor of tho Indinns, and predicted that it marks tho beginning pf much friendlier relations between tho two tribes.
