Clerks' Union Social. On noxt Mon
day night at Union hall tho clerks'
union will givo a vory unique social and
smoker. A program is now being pre
pared. It is tho wish of the union that
all clerks in the city attend this social,
whethor afliliated with the union or not.
It is understood that on Monday night
all tho meat cutters of tho city will
join the clerks' union.
Religious. Thcro will bo regular ser
vices at tho Baptist church Sunday,"
morning and evening, conducted by
Professor Stabler. Sunday school at tho
usual hour.
Rally Day. Sunday next will bo rally
day for the Sunday school at St. Paul 's
M. E. church, and an effort will bo made
to fill tho auditorium at the usual Sun
day school hour, 10 a. in. An interest
ing program has been arranged and all
children aro invited.
Penn-Tyler. Yesterday afternoon
George E. Penn and Miss Ethel C. Tyler,
both of this city, woro united in mar
riago by Bishop Hunsaker of tho local
Mormon church.
Fined $25. Frank Mankin, arrested
at Pinto Creek a few days ago on a dis
turbance charge, entered a plea of guil
ty yesterday and was fined $23. lie
paid tho fino and was discharged. Mau
kin got on a "high lonesome" last
Friday night and it is said chased tho
men out of Gibson camp with a shot
gun. Hunters Return. Charles N. Lightle,
Balph A. Smith and Dr. Ii. It. Wilson
have returned from tho Mogollon moun
tains, forty miles north of Payson and
140 miles north of Globe. They report
a lively outing in tho largest pine for
est in tho west, where they spent the
month at recreation and hunting. Ligh
tle killed one deer, Smith two and Wil
son one. Smith brought in a fino pair
of antlers. They report that turkeys
aro plentiful and deer scarce on account
of a short crop of acorns in that sec
tion. J. W. Boardman of Payson ac
companied tho party from Payson on
tho hunt and killed three deer.

was in error in stating yesterday that
tho cash carrier system being installed
in tho Old Dominion Commercial com
pany store was tho first in Globe. The
Globe Commercial company has had a
similar system for almost a y9.tr, al
though it is not as largo, naturally, ns
that being installed in tho largor store

James' condition is improving daily and
there seems to bo no longer doubt about

tion. Francis A. Shaw, grand lecturor of
tho Masonic grand lodge, is in tho city
from Phoenix and tonight at tho meet
ing of white Mountain lodge, F. & A.
M., ho will oxcmplify tho work of the
order.
Mrs. James Wiloy has returned to San
Antonio, Texas, after spending a fow
days here. Sho camo to seo D. James,
who was shot ten days ago and whose
daughter is spending tho winter with
her in Texas.
R. S. Davis has roturncd from Can
anca, where ho has been employed for
tho last year. Ho .states that the camp
is practically dead, as only about thirty
men are working in tho mines and that
tho smoltcr will close as soon as the
stock on hand is used up, which will bo
about November 10. Mr. Davis for
merly lived, in Globo, having been em
ployed at tho Old Dominion for two
years. Ho expects to 'remain here dur
ing tho winter.

commowod an action in district court
against his wife, Olive E. McCurdy, for
divorce Tho potition states that the
couple was married February 20, 1902,
and that tho defendant is now a resi
dent of Santa Cruz county, this torri;
tory. Tho plaintiff alleges that his wife
has refused to leave her prosont homo
and live with him, and that she has so
rofusod for tho past year and a half,
which is sot forth to substantiate) a
chargo of abandonment.

court praying for a separation from her
husband, Samuel W. Bernard. Tho cou
plo wns married in 1901 and, according
to tho allegations of tho complaint, Ber
nard deserted his wife May 15, 1903,

ports detrimental to tho Hank of So
cured Savings, located at Allegheny,
were responsible for a run on that insti
tution today. Small depositors, who
withdrew their deposits were mostly foreigners.
READING RETRENCHING

READING, Pa., November 1. Tho
Reading Jtaihvay company is curtailing
expenses in road and wily departments
and all extra hands employed during
tho summer have been suspended. Tho
order affects 250 men, mostly Italians.
Receiving injuries in an accident
which confined him to tho hospital for a
season of six months and alleging that
ho .has been permanently incapacitated,
John Hall has brought suit against the
Gila Valley, Globo & Northern railway,
claiming damages in the sum of $10,000.
In his complaint filed in district court
yesterday Hall claims that he was em
ployed by tho defendant company ns
chninmnn in the engineering force and
was engaged in locating places for mile
posts along the lino of the track. On
April 23, with other employees of the
company, he started out from Solomon
villo on a railroad volocipede. Ho al
leges that the machino was in bad re
pair, resulting in an accident, in which
one of his legs was broken in three dif
ferent places and that ho received other
injuries which now promise .to per
manently inenpacitato him. Tho plain
tiff is rcpicscnted by Attorneys A. C.
Baker of Phoenix and Thomas E. Flan
nigan of this city. It is understood that
the case will be hotly contested.
