Pass. Agent TUCSON SLAYER'S FEARS WERE UNiOilNDED man who had surrendered himself at presoott for murder had been for- "gotten ShoriiT Charles W. Dyer of Twin Falls, Idaho, arrived in tho city yester day after W. T. Strathnm, who surren dered himsolf a few days ago to tho sheriff's olllco at Prescott, saying that ho was wanted in Twin Falls county "for tho murder of Frank Tuskono a year ago lust March, Hays tho Phoenix Re- publican. Ho told tho sheriff that ho was tired of being a fugitive from jus tice. Ho said that wherever ho went ho imagined that ollieers wero looking tor mui, and no was therefore anxious to lie taken back and have tho mattor disposed of finally. In ordor that tlicro might bo no huh. understanding, ho told Shoriff Lowry to suy in his telegram to tho Twin Falls authorities that tho man whom ho killed was an Italian by tho name of "Baby." He also gave assurance that ho would return to Idaho without tho formality of extradition. Sheriff Dyor said yesterday that as a matter of fact Strnthnm was not very badly wanted. At tho timo of tho murder tho territory within which it was committed wns Cassia rounty but since the county Iinsbcen divided and Twin Falls has been formed out of it. Thoie was novor much of a fcarch for Strnthnm. Tho evening after the kill ing n deputy sheriff who was stationed at Twin Falls mnde a perfunctory hunt tor Jam and within n day or two tho search was abandoned. After the now county was formed thoro wore so many other things to occupy the minds of tho citizens that no thought was given to Stratham, nnd when the telegram an nouncing his surrender was received there wns some hesitation about going to the expense of coming after him. Sheriff Dyer telegraphed to Sheriff Lowry asking if Stratham had com mitted any crime here. He received, a reply saying that he had not; if the reply had been different the Idnlio au thorities would not have bothered themselves any further about liim. But Sheriff Dyer made up his mind to come nnd notwithstanding the as surance of Stratham that ho would re turn to Idnlio without extradition, the sheriff, to guard against a change of mind, procured papers. They wero hon ored by Governor Kibboy yesterday and the sheriff left for Prcscott this morning. Sheriff Dyer, who was a policeman at Twin Falls at tho time of thpkill ing ml was Jfamiliar with tne circum stances of it. He said it was done without provocation nnd without mal ice. Strathnm had been drinking and ono bight ho left his lodging huise, saying that he waif going to kill some one. The first person ho mot wns the Italian, whom he shot in the back. Stratham had lived about that neigh borhood for some time, an employee of various construction camps. Ho went by the nickname of Georgy George, though it was known that his right name was Strathnm. Jlo was not a bad citizen; he drank to excess at times and at such times ho was apt to en gage in fighting, but lie had never man ifested n homicidal tendency. The sher iff said that it was very doubtful whether ho would bo convicted. Sheriff Dyer says thnt the Twin Val ley country is booming now in antici pation of the completion of a great irrigation cntcrpriso by which water will be furnished to 275,000 acres of land. It is a private enterprise and tho water is being taken out of Snake river. BEAT BACK ARABS LALLA MAGHNIA, Algeria, Novcm ber 29.
