The mineral commissioner of Mich gan is an optimist, as may bo gathered from a perusal of his annual report on the copper mining industry at Lake Superior. Among other things he says: "Taken ns a whole, Michigan copper mines were never in better condition than they arc at this timo and the fu ture outlook for the mine is especially bright, the prico of copper being tho principal contingency. Barring accidents and shut-downs, I predict for 1908, in amount of copper produced, tho banner vcar of coppjr "mining in the" Michigan district or tho Lake Superior region. "After careful consideration, I havo formed an opinion that future develop monts may show that discoveries mado, new mining enterprises started and modifications in mining methods of op eration introduced will result in proving 1907 to have been a very eventful and important year for the future of the copper industry in Michigan. Foremost among these events and undertakings may be placed, perhaps, the develop ments now under way at tho Lako Cop ncr mine, Ojibwny, 'Gratiot, Ahmcck, Isle Royalc, Globe shaft, electrification of mines nnd Calumet & Hecla re-crush ing mill. Other innovation? might be included. "In n general way Lake copper com oanies have been stretching out foi bigger and better results and continued improvements havo been mado in all branches of mining. Tho people behind the mines know the business thorough ly nnd conduct it for the best interests of tho companies and likewiso for the future well being of tho properties. Elks' Minstrels Tonight.
