"Low" blow into this town Wednes
lay evening and Thursday morning the
program to deceive tho good people of
Clifton was inaugurated. Collins be
gan to circulate arouud town accom
panied by two republican candidates.
When a democrat was encountered, with
no witnesses present, Mr. Collins was
put through an introduction stunt some
thing like this:
"Mr. Democrat, T want you to meet
my friend Mr. Collips, of Maricopa
county. Mr. Collins has been a life long
democrat, but this time ho is support
ing the republican ticket." .
After the deception had been prac
ticed, then Mr. Collins begins to unlim
bcr" his arguments why a democrat
should vote for Cameron.
It did not take the democrats of
Clifton long to drpp on to tho game of
deception, and when they did, they
punctured the democratic Cameron-Collins
political tire.
Since tho discovery of tho Lew Col
lins methods in Clifton, it is more than
possible that sonio of tho interviews
with supposed democrats printed in lo
cal republican papers have been manu
factured by tho same individual who at
tempted to masquerade under false
political colors at Clifton.

Lino Data, a Morenci miner, , was
struck by a falling rock and died in
stantly. The Tucson Star felt so good over the
victory that it employed a first page,
seven-column headline to top the story
of the defeat of Globe's ball team.
Tucson is enjoying the pleasures of a
big revival meeting.
The University of Arizona will open
Monday next.
It is said that Arizona republicans are I
not so anxious to secure the services of
Josoph Benson .Foruker. The democrats
might find him a profitable investment
if a close contest was anticipated.
Charlie Arnold will undoubtedly suc
ceed Wakefield as register of the Ari
zona land ofliee. Arnold is an old-timo
newspaper .man and the press would
welcome his promotion.
The General Grant, mining claim in
tho Kllsworth district was sold recently
for $83,000.
Phoenix is spending $7,000 for adver
tising puriwses.
Tom Malcom, a Williams carpenter,
fell out with his wife, formed the ac
quaintance of a soiled dove, sold his
home, gave the woman the dough and
prepared to elope. The woman has mys
teriously disappeared and so ias Tom's
money. There'll be a tragedy in Wil
liams if the fool killer hits that burg.
Joseph Hoglll of Williams has been
hold to the grand jury in the sum of
$800 for sotting flro to a house of ill

Forty prisoners are held in the Co
chise county jail charged with felonies.

ner, clerk of the board of supervisors at
Tombstone. ,
By making Horner register of the land
ofliee, and giving Cochise its first crack
at a federal position, local republicans
believe that just at this time it would
have a wholesome effect on tho vote
for delegate to congress.
Ilcrncr, though a strong republican,
was made clerk of the democratic board
of supervisors of Cochise; through the
votes of Supervisors McCabo and RiggH,
tho former a democrat wind tho latter
a republican. Supervisor Itiggs is a
brother of .1. .T. I.iggs, democratic mem
ber of the board of control.
Charles Arnold of this city recently
announced that he did not want tho
place, and though Frank II. Parker is
said to want the place, he will bo pushed
asido for political reasons that a movo
may bo made which it is hoped will
increase Cameron's vote in Coehifrc.

mittee to relinquish his position.
It will bo remembered that Mr. Ely's
resignation was handed to Chairman
Smith upon the day of his arrival i
Phoenix with Ralph Cameron for the
open air meeting in tho court Iiohm
plaza. During the. morning hours of
the same day it became known tha
J. C. Adams, the arch polical enemy of
Governor Kibbey would be the chalnim"1
of the meeting nnd would preside. Th
story is that the effort to foist Adams
on tho party, as tho recognized leader,
was too much for tho territorial admin '
istratiou eirclo and right then and there!
Mr. Ely determined to wnsh his hands
of the responsibility for the republican
ticket this fall. A few minutes later)
his resignation was in the hands of j
Chairman Smith. .1. C. Adams, who
jumped himself into political limelight
as the sponsor for Ralph Cameron, in
Maricopa county, and Sims Ely, the
erstwhile secretary of the republican
central committee, arc tho same two in
dividuals who said menn and nasty
things about each other only a few
days, prior to thp meeting of the repub
lican convention in Tucson, the columns
of tho Arizona Republican were filled
with open letters signed Ely and Ad
ams, in which the other was called nl
most everything except pet and endear
ing names.
When Cameron was nominated he was
launched forth as the special protege
of Governor Kibbey nnd his ndnunit"n
tion. But recent events go to show
that the candidate has been appropri
ated by the Adams wing of the party.
Is it any wonder that Mr. Ely handeT in
