Hnd it bt.bein for the prompt action of Dcp ty ShcrifT Porter McDorfnld, Saturday 'jnornlng, who happened to bo on the scene, mere wouiu nave uuun unoii.-r Chapter to the" tragedy of the killing W George Mulkej- by James Neale. ine jury last'ween 111 wie case aguiuii ealo brought In a verdict of not guilty and ho was discharged from custody. Saturday morning n few moments be fore 9, Mrs. .Mulkey met Deputy Sheriff McDonald 1n front of tho court house o"nd aeked him if it was possible for 'icr"t6 get the gun of her husband' "hat hail been used as evidence in Jhe case. McDonald told her that ho thought so and accompanied her to tho- clerk's oIIIcp, whero the clerk began to wrap the gun up with some articles of clothing that were used in the case also, but Mrs. Mulkey stated to the clerk that she did not want tho gun wrapped up with the other articles and when the clerk turned to wrap up the articles of clothing Mrs. Mulkey left the office, taking tho gun with her. As sho went down the stnirs sho exam ined tho weapon to see if it was load ed, at the same time trying tho trigger to sec if it ivould work. She then started up toward town, going up Thjrd street, but had gone only about hnlf a block when she saw Neale coming down Toughnut street to ward thq court house. She immediately started toward Neale, coining as rap idly as she could walk, and had reached a point in front of the court house, when Deputy McDonald saw that she was iu an excited frame of mind, and, as she had the gun cocked in her hand, he walked up to her and after some trouble succeeded in taking it away from her. She1 made the remark in tho presence of several Jpartics thcro at tho time that she wanted to kill the deviTif it was 'the last act of her life. After she had been disarmed she was taken to tho hotel and given tt the care of hor friends. The woman no doubt had Ueen worked into a frenzy by the results of the trial and the tes timony that was given against her hus hand in the trial of tho past few days and "hnrdly realized what she wns about, and was wrought up further by the action of Nculc, who is .iil to have passed her in the hallway of the court honse this mdrning and spoko to her, at the same timo having a sneering smile on his face. There is not the slightest doubt in the minds of n number of par ties who had witnessed the actions of Mrs.- Mulkey but that sho would have shot Neale had not Deputy Sheriff Mc Donald havo 'acted in the. mnttcr just as he did. The killing Of Mulkoy by Neale bas caused considerable feeling among the residents living in the vicinity of Dra goon nnd Johnson, and two sides or factions havo developed in the matter, nnd nlready there has been one or two slight disturbances over the matter nnd it would not bo surprising-to the officers to hear that other troubles will arise out of it.
