THE PLUMBER'S TORCH FOR THE

Years ago in Brown county, South
Dakota, a man named Campbell, bank
rupted himself trying to mako crops
grow with less rain than had always
been found necessary for Jhom. Others
lost their all, too, and moved away,
cursing tho country.
Brown county and all its neighboring
cbuntics went down into the slough of
despond and foreclosures, and great
areas, from Dovil'B lako on tho north

as two inches will grow under wet coun
try methods.

much reason, that even under "dry
farming" methods thcro is danger of
a great calamity to settlers all over this
arid west when the weather swings back
to tho dry stago again, as it will. Even"
"dry farming" requires SOME water.
And when tho arid plains go dry, they
go dry. 4 Otherwiso they would not be
inhabited by prairio dogs and grow up
cactus. ,

cultural department and tell us that
cactus is probably tho best crop to
which any farm can be planted!

cattle are afraid to step and which live
