OF RAILROAD STIMULATES II MM PROPERTIES SOWI 0 PROGRESS NEW SHAFT ON LIVE OAK NOW DOWN TO THEEE HUNDRED FOOT LEVEL EETUENS FEOM GEM SHAFT AEE GEATIFYINa TO PEOMOTEES OF COMPANY In tho Miami district, -which includes aomo of tho host known mines around hero and is daily taking more prominent rank as a region of rich ore deposits and of Increased mining operations, de velopment work is being carried for ward at a rate that loaves' no room for doubt that in several cases, at least, rich strikes will bo mado at no very distant date. The railroad extension to Miami Is progressing nicely. Tho grading work has now reached a point within one and ono-half miles of the terminal of the lino. The complotlon of tho railroad will glvo a great impetus to all operations In tho district, as sev eral companies aro waiting until Its completion before obtaining machinery on any largo scale. At the Miami prop erty, it is estimated that more than $9,000,000 worth of ore is within oasy reach, and tho work of blocking out is now being done. LIVE OAK At tho Livo Oak mine, just south of tho Miami property, a strong force of mon is doing development work with very satisfactory resultB and with ev ery assuranco of tapping rich oro bodies eventually. The Live Oak vortical shaft is now down 300 feot, and at this depth a site for a station in being cut out preparatory to crosscutting in several directions. Eventually, this shaft will bo put down to tho 500 foot lovel. When tho Livo Oak Development com pany took tho property under bond last Doeomber, tho shaft had boen sunk 200 feot andt where tho niuking had boon stopped there were traces of sulphides. Since, the sinking has been resumed by the mow owners, tho shaft has gone through 100 feet of sulphido oro aver aging 2V& per cent oopier. This shaf, has two compnrtmonts. A twenty-five horsopower gasolirfo hoist is boing used in dovelopmont work. From the thrrd lovel of tho shaft, drifting is uow boing done toward the tunnel which is being cut to intellect the shaft at a depth of 300 feot. Tho tunnel is to the southward, and has alreadybcon cut about 1,000 feot. Tho work on this is now being pushed. When finished, it will bo about 1,250 feet long.. In all, 150 feet of concen trating oro has been encountered in this tunnel.. This oro was struck at a distanco of about ,700 feet from tho tunnel's mouth. ' Reside ' affording a crosscut with the strong 'possibility of striking good ore bodies, this tunnel A .. . . will, also, afford a means of escape for any water that may bo found in sink ing the vertical shaft, ns it would be necessary to raiso it with pumps only to the third level, thus saving much fuel, which, of course, is a big factor in mining in this section. As is well known, tho Live Oak property is one of tho oldest locations in tho Miami district, and tho ultimate finding of Inrgo ore bodies, that will pay handsomely seems certain. Should tho 100 feet of 2V per Sent ore found in the. vertical shaft extend outward radially, a largo tonnago of concentrat ing oro should bo found in lenses. On the whole, tho outlook for the Live Oak is extromcly, satisfactory. COEDOVA IN MIAMI DISTEICT Tho Sullivan shaft of tho Cordova! pronertv in th Miami l;tTiet is now down about 120 feet. This shaft is on tno Kureka claim, nrd tho work on it was begun about fivo weeks ago. At that tune, a windlass was put in place, and sinco then, an engine has been installed and a temporary gallows framo has been set up. Sinking will be continued on this shaft at a rate of better than 100 feet a month, and the erection of a large permanent gallows framo will be begun in three or four days. Already, tho company has built a blacksmith shop, a storage house for supplies, and an engine house. A new oflico building is being put up at pres ent. In the Sullivan shaft, the drills havo gone through about ninety feet of Gila conglomerate, and from tho ninety-foot mark down for tho remaining thirty feot, the work has beon in highly al tered granite porphyry. At a depth of 400 feet in tho Sullivan shaft, several crosscuts will be mado in different di rections. One of theso will run north to strike tho main ore body of the Miami Copper company, whoso largest shaft lies within 200 feet of tho Cor dova line. No better indication of the value of tho Cordova property could bo desired than tho proximity of tho great elliptical body of ore belonging to tho Miami interests. This oro body, as. nearly as can bo ascertained, is in the form of a huge oblique cone with the axis tilted iu tho direction of the Cordova holdings. Tho dimensions of this cone uror in a gonoral way, about 1500 feet by S00 feet and the belt of schist in which it is included runs easterly and westerly. In tho Joe Bust, shaft of tho Inspiration mine, which ii about 2500 feet to the westward, the same kind of ore iu schist as is found in flirt Afifimi tvnrkinrra hfij Imnn cfrn.il jn largo quantities. Tho Joe Hush shaf j is only about 500 feet from the cornej of the Jenny claim of the Cordova prop erty, and every indication shows tha'i the same kind of ore bodies struck ii tho Miami and Inspiration workings ofi tend in a broad belt through tho Cot dova claims. ( In addition to the crosscut from the fourth lovel of tho Sullivan shaft to ward tho Miami oro body, others will bo run into tho Osceola and Willard claims to the westward. On both theso claims, there are excellent outcroppings, nud the presenco of large underlying ore bodies seeina certain. Tho sinking in tho shaft is now going forward at the rato of about four feet a day. In all, the Cordova Copper company has tho mineral rights to about 100 acres of land in this section. COEDOVA GEM SILFT At tho Gem shaft of tho Cordova property lying iu tho Olobo districty near this city, development work is bolnc done. The so-called Gem vein is being opened npbymeans of winzea ' for Particulars. P.. O. Box 8. and raises from tho twelfth level. The results of this work havo been very satisfactory. The voin for a distance of 1200 feet has beon found to bo min eralized, and four shoots of ore havo beon encountered in that distance. KEYSTONE At tho Keystone mine, adjoining the Live Oak property, tho shaft is down to a depth of about 350 feet. On tho 150 foot love), a station has boen in stalled with pumps, and drifting -and crosFcutting is being dono thero with two churn drills. COPPEE & SILVEE ZONE The returns from tho last car of ore shipped to El Paso from tho Copper & Silver Zone property, lying about three miles east of tho city, and adjoining tho Superior & Boston holdings, was received yesterday by II. W. Clark, who is doing development work on the claims. Whllo the ore.' did not run, as high as it was "expected to, it proved, nevertheless, to bo an excellent grade of ore so far as tho returns in dollars and cents are concerned. Tho smelter report shows that tho carload yielded 93.2 ounces of silver to tho ton, and, also, contained 2.1 por cent copper. The rally in stocks that doveloped yesterday was strongly extonded to tho accompani ment of a very active market for a time tpday. Extreme dullness und heaviness of the market after the de mand ha4 beon satisfied poiutcd "to the inference that it had come from un covered shorts rather than from re newed accumulation of long stocks." That the Union Pacific preferred mys tery retains its potency was shown by tho rapid riso in its price to 110, O'fc points higher than yesterday, and more than twelve points higher than the clos ing price of Monday of this week. Tho decision of tho stock exchauge authorities to keep the exchange closed from July 2nd, to the following Tues day, July 6, offers chances for added presuro oir'sYock market borrowers- ou call who would seek resources to carry over tho intorval at a period when the demand for money might bo active. Tho market closed strong with July 113. The magnificent prospects for tho new crop caused general liquidation in tho corn market, resulting in uet de clines of t to 1 cmt. Buying orders did not appear in as great vol ume as yesterday, so the amount of bus iness transacted in all the stocks was very small. Towards the close Amal gamated mado a sharp rally. There was some fair buying of Franklin which carried that stock to IS, the high point for tho day.
