Stories without number have been told regarding tonderfoot prospectors who embarked on a wealth-seeking ven ture equipped with a ease of strawber ries, six bottles of pickles, a bo of tooihpieks and three pounds of Sara toga chips, or at least a grub stake equally incongruous, but a demand not merely a lequcst was turned in yostorday by an old and hardened prospector, Pat O'Hara, which puts all former grub stakes to (light in the regions of the tall and uncut. For a two months' prospect three miles north of town, the prospector in question desired sonic eighty diffeient varieties of supplies. The outfit at a low figure would cost about $200. How it wohld have been transported to the mining claims is as yet an1 unsolved mystery. Here aro a few of tho "necessities" wanted: Two dozen lemons, eight packages of curiauts, one pound of caraway seed, two tins of cocoa, ono cako of stovo polish, twelve tins of salmon, twelve tins of lobster, two bits worth of cloves, half a dollar's woith of mustard and a few coal oil cans. Tho things tho prospector overlooked would not fill a very largo sizrd space in fact, tho men who aro backing him came to a quick conclusion that he intended starting a boarding house. When it is considered that 100 pounds of flour, seventy-five pounds of pota toes, twenty-five pounds of corn meal, with a few bean?, a slab of bacon, salt, pepper, cugar, coffee, baking powder and a couplo of bars of soap will keep tho average prospector and the wolf of starvation at a respectable distance for an lndefinito period, tho grub stakers ero not so far wrnog. According to latest roports, tho pros poctor was till taking his tinie out in waiting for tho order to bo filled. Mosquitoes Would Be Worth Fortune in "Dry" Community NEW ORLEANS, Juno 21. "Tho African mosquitoes intoxicato you. They inject so much poisou into you that you are dazed, your eyes roll and you stagger and speak thickly. In a word, you're drunk," said a mission ary. "In the Nyassa country I'd always start betting leady for bed and the mosquitoes an hour boforo sunset. I'd set up my mosquito net with the utmost care. I'd clamp down its edges with valises and boxes. I'd light insido it three green wood fires, filling it with a bitter smoke that all insects arc sup posed to loathe. , "Finally, I'd get in myself. I'd smoke big pipes of the black native tobacco and I'd long miserably in that hot, smoky atmosphere for the dawn. "Despito all my precautions quitf 200 or 300 mosquitoes would get inside by net as soon as darkness foil. The, wcro like a whirlwind in there. It couldn't havo been worse. Their noif-e an dtheir nipping made m efevcrish made me really delirious at times. "At last in oxhaustion I'd get a few hours of troubled sleep, awakening for breakfast drunk fro mthe poison inject ed into by veins by hundreds of tiny needles. "No, it isn't tho clophants or tho giraffes that troublo tho African hunt er, but the 'skeetcrs.' " 1 I Ml! II SIX WEEKS ROADBED COMPLETED TO POINT BEYOND OLD RACE TRACK IN THE FLATS i( Mi HLV FINISHED SHEW LEAVES TO REM ALLEGEH FORGER LONG TRIP TO CANADA WILL RE QUIRE SEVERAL WEEKS TO GET PHILLIFSON GANG TO LAY STEEL WILL AR RIVE IN SHORT TIME FOR FINISHING TOUCHES Prom tho progress which has been mado within the past few weeks on the Miami extension of the Gila Val ley railroad, trains should, be running into that camp within tho next six weeks. With two big gangs of men at work constructing tho roadbed, tho work has been completed to a point on tho flat beyond the race track, near Holliday's saloon. Tho work along this section is very light, as tho track passes through an almost level strip of country. The re maining portion of tho dirt work will bo easy and it w ill -take but a short timo to complete tho roadbed into Miami. As the rock work a short distance below town, on which a small gang of men lias been employed ever since tho road building started, lias been veru nearly completed, it is expected that the track laying gang will be brought here within a shoit time to begin the work of laying the rails which will con nect Globu aud Miami. While nothing of a definite nature has been made public regarding tho layiug of a new line of tracks between tho Gila Valley depot and a point near tho Old Dominion smelter, to give the road ample provision for handling both the smelter and Miami traffic, the securing of a-number of pieces of prop erty along what is supposed to be tho location of tho proposed line, makes it apparent that work on this improve ment will be commenced as soon as the necessary right of way has been so cured. Sovcral pieces of property havo al ready been turned over to tho railroad company and it is probable that thero will bo important developments regard ing this work within a rihort timo. Suspected Bomb Throwers Are Discharged TUCSON, Juno 2S. Ben Ivlink and Thomas Northeu, held as suspects of tho Whalcn dynamiting, had a prelim inary hearing today. They were dis charged, owing to insufficient evidcuce. Tho authorities and railroad detectives aro still working on the case. Rewards Sheriff Henry Thompson will leave this morning, enroute to Edmonton, Canada, to bring to this 'city J. C, Phillipson, wanted here for. embezzle ment. Owing to the fact that the much wanted man was residing outside of the United States when arrested, somo lit tle time, may bo necessary to comply with the necessary formalities, incident to the securing of tho required requisi tion papers. Sheriff 'Thompson will go from hero to Phoenix to take tho first steps to ward Phillipson 's extradition. It may be that ho will be compelled to go to Washington 1). C, to secure some of tho papers, although this long trip may be dispensed with by tho telegraphic approval of the documents by the sec retary of state. After all arrangements have been made for bringing the prisoner back to Globe, it will probably rcqnho near ly three weeks for the sheriff to mako the trip. Little apprehension is felt ou the score that Phillipson may Cbcape from the Canadian prison on a technicality, as a number of telegiams which havo been recived from the sheriff att Ed monton have failed to state any neces sity for haste on the part of tho local authorities.
