After making a thorough investiga tion into what was purported to bo a move on the part of the republican county central committeo to oust George II. Smalley from his position as clerk of the district court, Judge Ernest W. Lewis has decided to continue tho present incumbent of that office in hta present position. Some time ago, an article in a Phoe nix newspaper, purporting to be a spe cial dispatch from Globe, set up lho statement that a petition signed by about 700 residents of Gila county, ask ing that Smalley bo removed from his position, had been filed with Judge Lewis. , No such petition was ever filed. What was purported to bo a copy of a peti tion, made up on a typewriter, in which about ninety residents of Globo asked that a republican be appointed to sue cecd Smalley, was placed in the hands of Judge Lewis, but on investigation, it was discovered that tho republican county central committee, instead of being practically unanimous in voicing tho approval of Smalley 's ejection as had been reported, that a majority sup ported him. After a thorough investigation, Judge Lewis decided to mnko no changes in tho personnel of tho court officials, as Is shown by tho following statement made to tho Silvor Belt yes tcrdny: "I havo docided to retain Mr. Smal ley as clerk of .the court. Tho court officials throughout the district hnvc proven satisfactory and competent and it is my intention to make no changes. "Mr. Smalloy is an eflicient clerk and his continuance in his present po sition is in accord with the wish of a majority of the republican county cen tral committee as well as that of the local executive member of the terri torinl central committee. "The storv originally nppearing in a Phoenix newspaper, to tho effect that a petition signed v some 700 Gila county people had been filed with me, asking for the leinoval of Mr. Smul Icy and the appointment of another per 'ou in his place, is untrue. A petition xiirnrd bv some ninety residents of Globe, recommondiug the appointment of another local republican to his posi tion, was filed, but this petition was, it appears, largely signed under the im pression that Mr. Smalley would not bo reappointed in auy event, and does not alludo to Mr. Smalloy in any way." As the result of a youthful marriage, evidently unsatisfactory to tho bride, Mrs. Maggie L. Albritton filed suit in the district court estcrday, to an nul the marital compact between her and William D. Albrittou. According to the complaint, tho mar riage was consummated five years ago when the bride was but a few da oer fifteen years of ngc. For a time marital relations wc e pleasant, but since that tune they han become unsatisfactory to the bride- and she is applying for a legal separatio j Under the territorial laws, marriage can be made, when the bride is over tin age of sixteen yeais, with the consent of the parents, but under that age, iu mariiage compact is legal. As it would have been very difficult for a license to have been secured, when the age of the bride-to-be was given at less than sixteen yearn, somo embar rassing questions may have to bo an swered, when the case comes to trial, as to how the necessary license was se cured. Tho plaintiff, before her marriage, was Miss Maggie Solomon, whose par outs live about twenty miles north of Rooevelt and aro well known in that district. Attorney J. M. McCollum represents the plaintiff. H0LL1S BROTHERS BOUND OVER 10 The Gila Valley Bank & Trust Company ciSSwSfinm WE PAY 4, PEE CENT ON SAVINGS ACCOUNTS. A'BW BUSINESS INVITE! C. E.
