The foundation of Mrs. Grum bles' new residence is about com pleted and carpenters are at work on the house. The democrats of Lincoln coun ty have placed a good clean ticket in the field for county offices, one for which excuses need not be made. The seven months old son of Mr. and Mrs. Coke Keith died Tuesday, the Jth instant, at 12:30 o'clock, p. m. The funeral ser vice was conducted at the ceme tery by Rev. L. h. Gladney, pas tor Methodist church. J. F. Hinkle was nominated by the democratic legislative conven tion at Santa Fe,the4th, inst. for councilman from the 9th, district. U. S. Bateman, of Carlsbad, is the nominee of this district for the House. Hon.O. A. Larrazola, demo cratic nominee for delegate to congress, and Hon. II. B. Fergu son, will arrive here Saturday af ternoon, and will speak at Bon ncll Hall Saturday night. Every body invited to hear them. NARROW ESCAPE. Mildred Davidson and M. D. Lincoln quarrelled over some bus iness proposition here last week, which came near resulting in a tragedy. Lincoln struck at Da vidson and the blow was returned by a slash with a knife which struck Lincoln's throat, inflicting an ugly gash. The cut is two or three inches long, and in the cen ter of the wound penetrated the flesh about half an inch. Davidson was arrested and was bound over to await the action of the grand jury. FELL FIFTY FEET. P. Sechrist, an employee of the Old Abe Company, was seriously if not fatally injured in the Old Abe mine Tuesday at noon, when leaving the stope where he and Carl Keith had been at work he ramarked: "I am leaving my coat" and returned into the stope. Noth ing further was seen or heard of him until five minutes later when he was picked up at the bottom of the stope 50 feet below where he had gone for his coat by Nick Bastion, one of the shift who had been waiting for Sechrist's return to the cage to go up for noon. He was taken from the mine and medical aid was hastened to him with the greatest possible dispatch. A number of ugly scalp wounds are his greatest vis ible injuries, and should no inter nal hurt manifest itself he will soon recover. Mrs. Nannie Jones, Capitán, is visiting Mrs. A. E. Lesnet. Ferdinand Spilke was in the city from Jicarilla yesterday. Richard Shanklin and Miss Besing are visiting in Capitán. Phillip Flint is working for Taliaferro Mercantile & Trading Company. Miss Grace Austin, of Angus, ! is visiting her sister, Mrs. Gumm, at this place. Andy Mayes was in from his Oscura ranch for supplies the first of the week. F. J. Settelle, traveling for Krakaur, Zork & Moye, hard ware house of El Paso, spent Saturday and Sunday in the city. L. II. Rudisille and T. B. Gregg returned last week from a visit east. Mr. Rudisille was a dele gate to the G. A. R. blow-out at Chicago. Rev. L. L. Gladney, pastor of the Methodist church, has arriv ed, ííev. Gladney is an able preacher and is deeply interested in his work. JICARILLA PLACERS. Correspondence;. B. F Gumm and wife, Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Grumbles, J. A. Gumm and Mrs. Geo. W. Prichard vis ited the camp last week. W. T. Fitzpalrick, chairman of the board of registration for this precinct, is in from a trip to the Gallina district where he spent a day or so in quest of votes. There will be about 70 names on the rolls for this precinct this year. W. M. Lane met with a very painful, but not necessarily seri ous, accident iiaturday evening. By the accidental discharge of a shotgun in the hands of Fred Reasoner, he was shot in the thigh, five or six shots taking effect, one of which passed through the muscles just above the knee. Mr. Lane is at home in White Oaks for medical treat ment. The work of the American Placer Co. is progressing with excellent results and claim to have an abundance of water. The well is down 365 feet with water still increasing. Prof. E. S. Coombs, of the White Oaks public schools, was here Saturday for a hunt and an incidental survey of the camp. Cody Kempton is doing assess ment work on the Tip Top. Dr. J. F. Mains is going to be gin work soon on the Toledo for Lund & Co. ADVERTISED LETTES.
