(;EO. N. C' tRKE. THE NEW EDUCATIONAL LAW. A number of papers in the State are Ihav;g their fling' at the educational bill r,,,ed at the last sessilt of the Lei: lature. It is efhlmed by these papers that the new law Is a bold at temapt to deprive the people of each tarish from having voice in the nam ing of the snperintendenrftin the dif ferent parishes, and that all power has been filched from the school board which is elective, and turned over to the State Board of Education. School conditions differ greatly In many of the parishes of the 8tate, and to predict exactly how the new law will affeet earl section, is im possible. But speaking for a number of parishes in South Louisiana, we know that the new educational law, has already done much to eliminate politics from the public schools. Under the new law it is impossible for any one to qualify for the office of school stuperintendeith unles he be a prolfessiuonal school-man. No super Intendent can receive a certilcate from thie State Board of Education, hlntil ' has succensinUy passedanex smlination lmfore tihe State Examin ing ('ommnittee composed of five of the leading educators of the 8tate. Surely, if we cannot truet men who are educators, andl who do not de pend on politines, then the people ar& In a "bad way." The new educational law will not eliminate politie from the public schools, neithler will it inject more politics, but it will make it hard for politicians to control the schools of ithe parishl y Iholding the whip over the superintendent. Under the old law it was a simple thing for the poli ticians to throw-out any superintend ent, ifit so plcased them, by electing their supporters as members of the school board. We do not believe in creating a school trust, nor do we favor turntng all of the mahlagement of the local schools to the State IkHmrd, but we do not see whlere these things have been duine by the new educational bill.-The (Assumption) Pioneer. Under date of Ttlh ailst., State Super ilntendent of Public Education J. B.
