TALLULAH, LA., May 12, '10 At a Drainage Convention held in Tallulah March 11th, 1909, over which I had the honor to preside, I was charged with the duty of interesting the United States Geological Survey and the United States Department of Drainage Investigations in examining and making a report on the feasibil ity and probable cost of a thorough Drainage System of the Fifth Louis iana Levee District; also the duty of appointing a Law Committee of five lawyers of the District to draw a bill for presentation to the present session of the Legislature in accordance with reports by the United States Drainage Departments. The preliminary report has been finished by the U. 9. Drainage Inves tigations, of which Mr. G. C. Elliott is Director, and a Bill has been drawn by the Law Committee, of which Mr. J. B. Snyder is Chairman, and after a conference with members of the Legislature and Mr. Snyder it was de cided to call a convention or Masse Meeting at Tallulah, on MONDAY, May 23rd, 1910, at 12 o'clock m., to submit the Report of the Drainage In vestigations and a copy of the Bill drawn by the Law Committee, to the Tax Payers of the District for their consideration and action, to decide whether it will be desirable to pro ceed at the present time with the mat ter of Drainage. Every one laterested Is urged to attend this meeting so that a ful discussion and clear understandlng can be had of the prom t and cost. The traisit, both North and South, on the M., H. and L. Ry., arrives at Tallulah before noon, and arrange ments will be made for a special to run both ways in the evening, on which parties can return home. Respectfully submitted, J. T. McCLELLAN. IMstig Nf Padis Teachers' Assat On Friday, May 6th, the Tenses Parish Teachers' Association met for the last time during this school year. On this occasion there was more enthusiasm and interest manifested than at any previous meeting. This was partially due to the fact that a larger percentage of the teachers were present than at any of our former sessions, and again to the change that Mr. Wade made in the programme. Instead of having only one meeting, there were three and only those teachers were in the room that had specially prepared for the subject. In this way a great deal of form ality was dispensed with and each teacher felt more like asking and answering questions than formerly. During the joint session, several very interesting and instructive les sons were taught. In the afternoon the Newellton and St. Joseph schools had a spell ing match and St. Joseph was vic torious. On account of a misunder standing of the book to be used, the match was less interesting than if all the contestants had studied on the words given. All of the con testants on both sides wish to have the match repeated some time in the future. After the spelling match the boys of Waterproof and St. Joseph played base ball at the base ball park. The score was 8 to 7 in favor of Water proof. Miss Elizabeth Crothers is visit ing her aunt, Mrs. Turner, in Nat chez. Sunday School at the Uuion Church Sunday morning at 10 o'clock. JoaPr, LA., April 2, 1910. I Notice to the Public! The rumor has been persistently cir culated by some of my good "friends'" that the big sale recently conducted by me was only a prelude to my withdrawal from busi ness in St. Joseph. I wish to flatly contradict this state ment, as I have no intention whatever of leaving St. Joseph, or of discontinuing busi ness here. Those who. have busied them selves with circulating this report have done so with selfish purpose and with view of their own betterment. Since my return from the East, where I recently went to select my SPRING and SUMMER GOODS, the public is cordially invited to call at my store and see the im mense and magnificent stock that is daily arriving, and which is about as complete as ever seen in this town or parish.
