Attended by ideal weather, the entertainment given Friday, De cember 2nd, by the patrons and teachers of the Newellton High School for the purpose of obtaining money to enlarge the library, was a pronounced success. A large and generous clowd answered the appeal for help, and while giviag their sup port to this very good cause, inci dentally spent a most pleasant af ternoon. The feature of the occa sion was a hasklthall game between the High Seiool and a picked team composed of the teachers and oth ers. Ani lt mucnh e t:husiasn from the side lihes, wheI each team had about an equal nenru'xr of cheering supporters, the l'icked Team went down before the fast and snappy playing of the lHigh School bunch. The former were clevely out-classed from the beginning; and though putting up a very plucky fight, it was a losing one. The High School guards managed to keep the ball at a safe disiance f;omu their goal the greater part of the lime, allowing only one throw fronm the field which netted results. The forwards gave a good account of their chances at the basket, making in all four goals from the tield. The Picked Team was greatly handicapped by its mem bers not having had any practice together; but even under such a disadvantage they made it decided ly interesting for their opponents. The line-up w:Ly as follows: PI'KEI : TEAM. Miss Johnston, F. Miss Brower, F. Miss IR muh luckner, C. Miss Emily Netter ville, G. Miss Hughes, G. lII'I- 4'1i0OL. At other tables were beautiful displays of cakes, candlies, and f:tncy work, none of I which failed to find a ready pur chaser. When the crowd had dis perled, leaving only a few remnants in its wake, the iidy sum of sixty seven dollas and twenty-five cens was left in the hands of the Library Benefit Prom,,e's.
