Hall, one of the commissioners investigating land frauds, examined several witnesses yesterday. Died From Lockjaw. James Green Edwards, whose death was recorded yesterday, was the colored boy who fell in an attempt to board the cars and had his foot thereby lacerated in a frightful man' ner. For a time he seemed to do well, but tetanus, or lockjaw set in and the patient sue cumbed. The young man was laid to rest this morning. Runaway, Considerable alarm was created on Alamo street by the appearance of a runaway horse At the corner of Commerce street it collided with an express wagon, damaging the wheels, Ultimately Officers Gleason and Oppermann succeeded in stopping the horse before any further damage was done. The horse be loneed to Mr. Garibaldi. It is a fine animal and is much injured. For Safe Keeping. Sheriff Daugherty, of Frio county, brought in and placed In the county jail, for safe keeping, a Mexican named Cerario Lesarson the shepherd who shat John Hamilton, at Frio Town, lad Friday night. Hamilton reported to be in a dangerous condition. II was shot while attempting to prevent the Mexican from shooting a stockman named Dan Little. A New Way of Liberty Jack Simpson, who was recently convicted in the District court for theft, was sent to the poor house to work. That, to a prisoner who objects to stay there, is almost equivalent to giving htm his lib rly, because there is no adequate provision made for the care of piisoners. As a result Simpson is missing, and County Judge Mason offers $5 reward to any one who will arrest him, and return him to tbe poor house, so lhat he can escape LOCAL 1'KIISONALS. terns Gleaned In the Hotel Corridors unit Vnrlou Olhor Sources. There was a peculiar scene this morning on the Military plaza, when the giant foim of uniformed man was seen between two men of rather small stature. It reminded the specta tors fercibly of Gulliver among the Lillipu tians, but it was only the giaut policeman con veying two inebriates to the city jail, A Luuatio at Large. Yesterday a young man named Boone Moore went to the store of Emil Oppermann and because Mrs Oppermann would not give him refreshments without pay he was d'so derly and seriously frightened her.
