Washington, December 19 Colonel Uoudlnot presented an application to District Attorney Corkhill, asking him lo protecute William A. The names of six witnesses, includ ing Secretary Teller and Commissioner Trice, are furnished to Corkhill. New Orlf.ans, December 19. A Baton Rouge special sayt: The Democratic State convention met at noon. The Committee on Credentials reported the seating of ant! administration delegates from West Carroll and administration delegates from East Baton Kouge. They then asked until seven o'clock this evening to complete their deliberations. Granted, and the convention took recess till seven o'clock. Joliet, December 19. George Freestone, aged twenty-three, a boarder at the Auburn House, entered the room of the head cook, Jane Haycock, last night, bound her head to prevent her screaming and then outraged her. When he started to leave the room the woman gave the alarm, when Freestone ran back, cut her throat with a knife and fled. Ite was arrested while his -hands were still covered with blood. He afterward confessed Ihe deed and declared that he was intoxicated, The woman is unconscious, and is expected to die. The assailant was jailed amid threats of lynch ing. St. Louis, December 19 Ittac and Leo pold Seligman, of London, and Jesse and James Seligman, of New York, have brought suit in the United States Circuit court here against the St. Loui. and San Francisco rail way company, and William C. Wilson, a local financial agent, to restrain the sale of $22,000 worth of St. Louis and San Francisco stock, recently levied on by Witson to satisfy a judgment of $75,000, which he has lately obtained against the Seligman's in connection with the construction of of a piece of railroad, which now forms a part of Ihe St. Louis and San Francisco line in the Western part of Ihe Slate. In the State Senate to-day the report of the Committee on Privileges and Elections, declaring the Gov ernor's writs for special elections for the 25th, 27th, 31st and 33d Senatorial districts null and void, and directing the President pro tern, of the Senate to issue writs forthwith for such election, was adopted by a strict parly vote ayes 23, nays II. The elections are to fill Ihe vacancies caused by fonet, Stevens, Martin and Rue accepting Federal and Stale offices, thereby forf-iling their positions as Senators, and which the Governor claimed the right to fill by elections already held under his writs when ihe Democrats generally refrained from voting.
