The Garfield National .Bank, the only National bank between Colfax and Spokane, has been organixed. The fishing schooner Mary, in port at Port Townsend, made the rich find of about |40,000 worth of ambergris outside Cape Flattery. O. C. Mathis, former cashier of the defunct Exchange bank of Blaine, pleaded guilty to forgery last week in the superior court. He formerly pleaded not guilty. The Secretary of the Interior has rejected all bid 3 for removing timber around Lakes Kathess, Keechelua and Cleelum, which are to be used as reservoirs in connection with the Yakima irrigation project. The work will be readvertised. Reports from Coulee City, Doug las county, state that the wheat crop of the entire county has been dam aged 50 per cent in the last JO because of lack of rain. Grasshop pers and squirrels have also hurt the wheat. The application of parry Ochs, Grant McCann, T. A. Hansard, Au gust Timm, C. A. Pegle and E. J. Hibschman to organize the First Na tional Bank 'ot Harrington, with $50,000 capital, has been approved by the Controller of the Currency. Because he stopped his harrow and went to the house for a bearskin coat, John Simpson, a farmer near Garfield, started a runaway in which his team was so badly injured that both horses bad to be shot. Simpson had but recently refused $500 for the team. Despondent over her failure to pass her grades at the recent High School examinations, Nellie Giggey, a 17-year-old Bellingham girl, has dis appeared and It Is believed commit ted suloide. She had frequently threatened to take her life since her failure'to pass senior examinations. The Unitecf States Court has ap pointed Sol Frledenthal, of the Schwabacher firm, temporary receiv er for the John W. Dickie ft Son Company, the bankrupt Raymond shipbuilding company, and issued a restraining order directing Mr. Little, recently appointed receiver, to give the management of the affairs over to the new appointee. Prosecuting Attorney Rowland, of Tacoma, has given out a written opinion declaring that nearly all can didates have violated the primary laws by publishing notices of their candidacy. If Rowland enforces the law as he sees It, the chances are that all or nearly all of the men elected to county offices will not be able to qualify for the office to which they were elected. The law may also be enforced with reference to state officials. Steps are to be taken by the State Tax Commission to have Frank C. Heddorf, who escaped from the Medi al Lake Insane asylum eight years ago and has been missing since then, declared legally dead. Heddorf pos sessed property In Okanogan county worth $10,000, and If no heirs can be found the property will escheat to the state's permanent school fund. The office of purchasing agent on the Isthmian Canal Commission at Tacoma has been discontinued. Agent Haradon, who has been in charge, has submitted his resignation to take effect July 15. As no purchases ex cept lumber were made at Tacoma, the office was thought unnecessary. Whatever Inspections are hereafter required will be made by the Army Engineer's office at Seattle.
