BOND HOLDERS
FROM CROOKS
Asks for Name. "of Persons
Trading Worthless Stock
foi Liberty Bonds .
The United States _governnent has
begun a determined light against Lib
erty Bond swindlers to protect the
people who patriotically responded to
the call ior'funds to support the war. -
’Ail persons who are sent literature
or, are approached by dealers per
suading them to part with'their bond
holdings for what are considered spec
ulative or doubtful securities have
been asked by the government to send
the names and addresses of the com
panies to the Federal Trade Commis
sion, Washington, D. C.
The Federal Trade Commission will
call for reports in proper cases and
the Federal Trade Act provides that
any company or person making a
tame report to the commission ‘will
be heavily fined and imprisoned. The
commission points out that the small
est holder can obtain the same price
as the shark and that all the expenses
of running thc‘iraudulent business of
the illicit dealers must be borne by
the holder of the bonds.
.The government by a successful
campaign at this time hopes to con
vince prospective buyers of the Vic
tory Loan that it'is ready to make
every eflort to stand behind holders-oi
government bonds.
EIGHT CENTS BUYS
5000 HUN HELMETS '
FOR VICTORY DRIVE
Two Pennies Change to Apply“
on Purchase of Submarine
for Final Loan
One dime with two cents back for
change brought 5000 German helmets
to the Liberty Loan Committee of the
Twelfth Federal Reserve District to
be used in the Victory drive. ‘
When 3. ‘A. Farnsworth. manager at
publicity for this district. heard that
Frank R. Wilson, '- national director oi
publicity. had hid in. 85.000 helmets
from the War Department he enclosed
ten cents in a letter with a request
that he be sent his share of the tro
phies.
A wire came back the next day
saying that 5000 helmets would be
shipped with two pennies for change.
Mr. Famsworth wired to keep the
cha'nge and apply it or. a submarine
which the twelfth district would like
to have to help advertise the cam
paign.
The helmets will be distributed a:

GET YOUR DISCHARGE
Discharged soldiers who fought in
the big war are going to be issued reg
ular honest-to-goodness “honorable
discharge" medals. The emblem will
be a bronze. lapel button,_2imilar to
that of the G. A. R. A design has
been selected from fifteen models
submitted by artists and sculptors.
Your "honorable discharge” will be
the “V" lign hanging in the window
showing you are a subscriber to the
Victory Loan.
PAY YOUR DEBTS
On New Year’s eve the cost of the
war to the United States stood at 822,-
000,000,000. Practically all of this
money had been raised by. taxation
and by the Liberty loans. The entire
amount which had come into the
Treasury up to ’that time for war pur
poses had either been spent or had
been ear-marked for specific bills.
Since the middle of November when
the armistice was signed the govern
ment has been borrowing at the rate
of $600,000,000 every two weeks to
meet its war obligations. At this rate
it will have obtained from the banks
of the nation from four to five billions
of dollars before the beginning of the
fifth Liberty Loan April 21. -
The people of the United States,
through their repreSentatives in Con
gress, voted for the expenditures which
made necessary the borrowing of these
huge sums. The government in antici
pation o! patriotic support from the
country in raising the Victory Libertm
Loan has already paid the hills. In
all justice and honesty the people ot‘
the United States will not fail their‘
government and will finish the job by
oversubscribing the last popular war
loan by an even larger percentage
than they did the tour which have
gene before. _

“I have just seen the working print
