I don’t think you will ever fully realize the fine thing you are doing,. and believe me us~ fellows just can’t appreciate it enough. From all indications I doubt if we will ever recognize our old home town when we get back. From what we read in the paper there’s lots of change: be iing made there. I sure would like ‘to be there and see what’s going on. I'm writing this aboard sh'ip somewhere 'at sea. This is my (word deleted) boat ride now. I'm beginning to wonder whether I'm in the navy or army. Army Alaska, 12-19-43 Hello Ralph, ‘ - Just a few lines to tell you, that I have been receiving your paper regular, and fully digesting the same. It’s a great moral builder to read about the folks at home. and to read what they are doing, despite rationing and the clouded future. Alaska is a beautiful country. and in time I hope that it will be one of our most prosperous states. It should always be held as our northern Rock of Gibraltar. When developed Alaska will be our greatest military outpost and above all a place where the coming generations, can and will have peace and prosperity. Enough for this time. Thanks from the bottom of my heart for your gift of the home town paper. I’ll try and never let down until. it's all over over there. , ' Respectfully yours, Lloyd Roberson 714 RY Opn. Bn. Co. Somewhere in Britain Dear Mr. Reed: I thought I would drop a line to you to inform you of my new address, and give you my new address, which was formerly Colo rado Springs, Colo. I am in the British Isles now.‘ I have been here for just a short period so far, but what I’ve seen here meets my approval. There is decidedly a ditference between the two countries, though. Their houses are of old English pattern and one would get lost in one of their villages it he doesn't have a road map. Their speech is the same as ours with a slight brogue. The people are very easy to get ac quainted with, and try to make you at home as much as they can whenever you are visiting them.
