THE CITY COUNCiL
| Transacted the Usual Batch of Busi
ness Last Evening.
The petition o A. Jonas for larger
water main was granted.
Snpt. Linn reported water main across
the Chelmli-t river as leaking about 5,000
gallons an hour, and the question of
accepting the work was discussed. The
i contractors claimed the leaks were in the
| defective joints furnished hy the city, and
| that they had tilled the letter of their
! contract. The suhject was referred to a
committee of the whole this evening, and
it is likely the matter will find its way
into the courts before it is closed.
The clerk reported water collections
for May as $2,"i.86.07.
Supt. Linn reported the following for
the water department for May: laps
made, 14; operating expense, $012; ex
tensions, $9,090.
Police Judge Bush reported $102 in
fines collected in May.
The street superintendent reported
numerous streets and sidewiilks requiring
repair, which weie referred to the street
committee.
A Sem men offered to put a coat of tar,
or tar and sand, on street crossings, at
87 ami 03 cents per square. Referred to
committee.
T ie attorney reported on the matter
lot doing public work in cxcess of $500
without letting contracts, saying that
bids should first he called for and con
j tracts let, unless the council thought it
! could he dune cheaper by the depart-
I nient. This was also made a suliject for
' the committee of the whole tonight,

A petition was read complaining of
sloughs hi South Aberdeen being filled
up with sawdust. Referred to a commit
tee with power to act

A Pleasant Wedding Party in North
Aberdeen Tuesday Evening.
A few invited guests assembled at the
home of Mr. and Vlrs. Harry F. Coles in
North Aberdeen, Tuesday evening, to
witness the marriage of their youngest
daughter, Luzella, to t'<e young man of
her choice, Charles F. Kieist, also of lids
city. The ceremonies were in charge of
a former pastor and particular friend of
the family, Rev. F. K. Van Tassel. The
guests consisted of relatives of the con
tracting parties and a few intimate
friends, chiefly from the Aberdeen Gen
eral hospital, where Miss Coles had done
efficient service as a trained nurse.
Promptly at 9 o'clock the Mendelssohn
inarch was played by Mrs. G. G. Fletch
er, and the couple, accompanied by the
best man, Mr. John Kieist, brother of
the groom, and Miss Myrtle Young, the
bridesmaid, marched into the parlor,
taking their position under the marriage
bell and back of the beautiful arch in the
bay window. The ling ceremony was
then clearly pronounced by the minister
and the two were made one.
After heartv congratulations ami a lit
tle hilarity from the envious ones who
got left, as well as a serenade from the
| Aberdeen tin pan corps, the guests sat
! down to a suinptuoi s supper, and con
} eluded the pleasant evening.

I'osinopolis we'e not represented, it was

in favor of a movement to gain all possi
ble publicity for Chehalis county out of

It is the intention to run a special

' upon methods of advertising was had,

the county, for distribution.
The matter of arrangements was re
ferred to a committee of one from each
town, with the president of each com
mercial organization as ex officio mem

The meeting adopted a resolution le

the apportionment being made as fol
lows: Aberdeen $150, Hoquiam $150,
Cosmopolis, Motresano ami Klma $50
each. These sums aie to be collected at
once and remitted to the committee,
which will meet tomorrow evening at
Kiks hall, Aberdeen, to organize and
I push along the arrangements.
RED MEN'S CARNIVAL.
' Arrangements are Completed for a
Week of Sport.
Aberdeen's big spring carnival, under
the auspices of the lied Men, is being
thoroughly exploited, and is getting
widespread publicity. The Seattle, Ta
coina and Pottland papers are boosting
it, and the attendance from outside
promises to break all rtcords. The pub
lic wedding, baby show and country
store, together with the band concerts,
parades, illuminations and other special
features will all be seen, in conjunction
with the big Nat Keiss Carnival com
pany, which is a veritable world's fair
"pike n in itself.
The streets are beginning to assume a
gala appearance with a lavish display of
gay carnival colors under the direction
of Chairman C. V. Loy, who has a corps
of expert decorators going a rapid pace.
Following is the arrangement of special
nights for carnival week as decided on
by the committee:
Monday is ' Red Men's Night," with
an opening parade at 7 :30 p. m.
Tuesday—"Fraternal Night," special
features.
Wednesday—"Grays Harbor Night,"
athletic contests, etc.
Thursday—"Ladies' Night" tug-of war
between married and unmarried ladies.
Friday — "Lumbermen's Day," loir
rolling contest, 1:30 p.m. "Cupid Night"
public wedding 9 p. m.
Satu;day- "Children's Day." Prize
baby show at 3p. m. Mardi Gras night,
closing night. Fun, Festivity and Frivol
ity. Everybody en-mask.

at the last session of the legislature will
go into effect June 8, 1!I0 >, and as a good

the following brief instructions:
"As soon as possible after June 8 have
your mill, in your judgment, up to the
requirements of the law. Semi your j

plication to the commissioner's ollice for
inspection. He will acknowledge the
same. Then upon the inspector present
ing himself to inspect your premises,

spection is made. If youi mill is found,
in the judgment of the inspector, to coi -
